TKH General Overview

The Knowledge House's mission is to empower and sustain a talent pipeline of technologists, entrepreneurs, and digital leaders, who will uplift their communities out of poverty.


The Knowledge House (TKH) approach is to (1) close gaps in the education-to-employment pipeline in underserved Bronx neighborhoods by teaching young adults aged 16-24 skills to launch careers or ventures in technology, and (2) support links between local youth, tech innovation, and business development that bring positive community impact.

Headquartered in the South Bronx, the poorest congressional district, TKH has served more than 1,900 students.

Current core programs include our Innovation Fellowship focused on software engineering, cyber security, and digital design for adult job trainees, and our Karim Kharbouch Coding Fellowship for high school students learning computational thinking and web design.

Role Overview:


Reporting to the Teaching and Learning Manager (Youth and Community Development Programs), the
TKH Digital Equity Steward will be primarily responsible for preparing for and leading a series of Digital Literacy workshops for adult and youth learners in community based organizations, and supporting the facilitation of a summer coding and design intensive for high school aged learners.

This engagement will include all preparation, teaching, and reporting tasks, associated with the workshop.

  • Communicate effectively and openly about program challenges, successes, and needs

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Teaching and Classroom Management 60%
  • Facilitate inperson and virtual digital literacy class sessions for community partners in your region, including all classroom management tasks and instruction for groups of diverse learner audiences (see schedule details below).
  • Lead virtual facilitation of a coding and design summer intensive for teens and young adults, including support via chat, Slack, and in breakout rooms (see schedule details below).
  • As needed, delegate facilitation tasks to teaching assistants and/or interns.
  • Facilitate occasional technical upskilling workshops during the school year for high school aged learners.
  • Review student assignments and provide feedback (and scores if applicable) to students in accordance with the class and grading schedule.
  • Provide ongoing assessment of individual student needs, identifying corresponding measurable goals, and monitor learner progress, in order to meet designated goals.
  • Elevate challenges and solicit support from the Teaching and Learning Manager (and KKCF Program Manager as needed) on classroom management and learning outcomes.
  • Provide additional support to students outside the classroom during designated office hours via Slack, web conferencing, and/or facetoface meetings.
  • Work with student success specialists to resolve challenges or concerns with KKCF fellows' behavior or performance.
  • Lead by example as a technology professional, to be an excellent role model for our students.
  • Attend professional development and training sessions as needed.
  • Instructional Material Preparation 20%
  • Review existing Digital Literacy workshop content and modify the format to fit the classroom needs of unique audiences of learners (e.g. senior citizens, opportunity youth, justiceinvolved learners, adults with incomplete high school or college degrees). This may include the development of slide decks, handson activities, discussion prompts, and groupwork exercises.
  • Conduct a weekly review of instructional materials and make modifications to accommodate each unique group of learners, as needed.
  • As needed, delegate instructional material preparation tasks to teaching assistants and/or interns.
