This role is situated within the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), specifically the Professional Development Bureau (PDB) within the Disciplinary Review Division (DRD).

The primary objective of this position is to oversee daily activities related to the employee relations program. This includes providing intricate guidance and advice on corrective and adverse actions within the agency.

The Hearing Administrator is also responsible for conducting complex research, addressing issues, and handling special projects within the division.

The individual in this role will be tasked with the following:

  • Offering sophisticated management advisory services by providing guidance and advice to agency officers and supervisors on employee relations matters.
  • Assisting in the preparation of cases for administrative proceedings and supporting on employee relations issues such as grievances, complaints, and disciplinary problems.
  • Coordinating and managing employee relations programs to facilitate smooth operations.
  • Delivering classroom instruction to first-line supervisors on departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Reviewing investigative reports and preparing corrective and adverse action cases, including removals and suspensions.
  • Notifying employees of recommended charges and drafting responses to legal representations.
  • Conducting investigations to gather evidentiary data and assist in preparing cases for administrative trials.
  • Compiling and analyzing statistical data to ensure fair treatment in disciplinary actions.
  • Managing case dockets, coordinating command-level communications, and drafting final notice of adverse action.
  • Producing case tracking reports, managing duty assignments, and handling termination cases.
  • Performing other assigned duties within the role.

Qualifications:

  • Proven advanced expertise in researching legal references, district manuals, directives, and court decisions.
