- Frequently uses critical thinking skills necessary to develop recommendations which provide technically sound, and the most cost-effective solutions applied to a specific problem.
- Actively participates in the departmental budgeting and planning processes. Develops, with limited guidance, solutions to a system problem including moderately complex scopes of work with a cost estimate and sequence. Learns the basics of the property unit catalog and the difference between capital investments and O&M spend.
- Performs or supports detailed engineering design and specification of protective microprocessor relay schemes, devices and settings to ensure protection of distribution and generation systems. Responsible for performing power system studies, system protection settings coordination, and SCADA programming on various projects (up to 345-kV voltage level).
- Performs root cause analysis of system disturbances or outages and recommends corrective actions to enhance system reliability.
- Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy's Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities
- Bachelor's Degree Engineering program that is accredited through the Engineering Accreditation Commission Required
- 5 years of related experience
- Project management experience, along with ability to deal with subcontractors and cross-functional teams; may have expertise in a particular area of the discipline.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).

This is a hybrid position and will work remotely and report to the Cedar Rapids, IA. Candidates must reside in Iowa.
In this role you will work both independently and with other engineers and employees to support operations, troubleshoot power quality and operational issues, review distributed generation interconnect applications, perform technical analysis related to system design and system protection, and plan improvements / modifications to our system to maintain affordability, reliability, and to continue to evolve with the future of energy and the grid. You will help us achieve our goal of providing a modern and resilient grid that serves the needs of our customers safely, efficiently, and responsibly.
