    Position Overview:


    This position will be responsible for managing a subset of National Park Foundation (NPF) projects focused on history and culture in national parks.

    NPFs History and Culture program works to preserve historic and cultural sites and help tell the stories that hold our shared history.

    The History & Culture program currently includes focus on the African American experience, Latino heritage, Native American /Tribal/ Indigenous history and culture, LGBTQIA+ history, and Asian American Pacific Islander history and culture.

    NPF is in a period of growth as it strives toward an ambitious $1B dollar campaign to support our parks.

    The Senior Program Manager will lead the History and Culture program to new levels, focusing on supporting and promoting history and culture sites, their operations, and their development within the NPS system.

    The Senior Manager will partner internally with NPF colleagues, with the National Park Service (NPS) and external stakeholders to, preserve, amplify and expand representation in our nations national parks, and provide support for the stewardship of history and culture sites and programming.

    This position will allow NPF to expand and innovate our programmatic impact related to historic and cultural preservation, including storytelling, tribal relationships/connections, infrastructure, and capacity building.


    Essential Functions/Duties/Tasks :

    Core Functions:


    Manage a portfolio of history and culture projects including providing grant administration, project management, budgeting, and technical assistance to NPS and partner grantees to impact historic and cultural preservation within national parks.

    Maintain strong communication and relationships with NPS and partner organizations to ensure programmatic success around high priority projects.
    Manage the diverse components of the History and Culture program, including project timelines, deliverables, reporting, communications, and donor stewardship.

    Serve as one of the subject matter experts on the NPF project portfolio and history and culture priorities within NPS.

    Assist with the development, implementation, evaluation, and asset capture of programs.
    Develop programmatic materials that demonstrate the larger narrative as one cohesive initiative to internal and external stakeholders.
    Serve on cross-departmental teams to assist with strategic planning, donor proposal development, communications, fund disbursements, and stewardship.

    Duties and Tasks:
    Manage grant budgets and fiscal-related activities such as ensuring compliance and timely submission and processing of grant paperwork.
    Utilize grants management software to maintain permanent record of grants and adhere to grant management policies.
    Facilitate best-practice sharing among grantees and other relevant partners.
    Assist with gathering, compiling, and analyzing information on program-related issues for preparation of required planning documents, evaluations and budgets.
    Manage consultants, contractors, and vendors in meeting deliverables on time and within budget.

    Stay abreast of current issues in historic and cultural preservation and NPS needs by attending relevant conferences/workshops and using attained knowledge to train staff and enhance program documentation.

    Provide research support in core policy and program areas including reviewing literature, investigating issues, and conducting surveys, interviews, and site visits as necessary.

    Work with NPF/NPS staff to evaluate potential new opportunities and programs in the context of the strategic plan and generate a pipeline of projects.

    Engage with donors as needed in support of programmatic impact.
    Represent NPF as appropriate at meetings, conferences, and donor visits.
    Required knowledge, skills, and abilities :

    Basic Qualifications:
    Undergraduate degree or 5-7 years equivalent experience preferred.
    In-depth knowledge of inclusive US History.
    Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

    Strong project management skills, including developing and monitoring budgets, with proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with attention to detail in a demanding environment.

    Excellent people skills including building trust with partners, communication, and problem-solving skills.
    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (advance skills in Excel) and SharePoint.
    Travel up to 25% of the time.

    Preferred education and experience:
    Minimum five years experience in historic or cultural preservation and/or working with the NPS.

    Extensive experience in community engagement and preservation of Native American history and culture or Asian American history and culture or Pacific Islander history and culture.

    Ability to analyze and review grant requests for completeness, viability, appropriateness, and effectiveness.
    Experience in working with diverse stakeholders, partners, and vendors.
    Knowledge and experience in developing and demonstrating effectiveness of program outcomes.
    Collaborative working style, responsive, considerate, flexible, and personable.
    Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    Working knowledge of Fluxx software, or other grants management databases.

    Compensation and Benefits:
    The National Park Foundation offers a competitive salary and benefits program. Starting compensation for this opportunity is $85,000 and is commensurate with the level of experience of the candidate. NPF works in a hybrid setting in Washington D.C.

    AL, CA, CO, FL, IL, MA, MD, MN, NC, NH, NM, NJ, NY, OH, SC, TN, TX, VA, WA, WI.
