Job Summary


The Project Construction Specialist will work closely with the APF Park Design team, key members of the APF programs team, the City of Austin Parks & Recreation Department, and contractors implementing the work.

The role will primarily focus on implementing current project efforts and APF awarded grant projects. Project support and coordination associated with the implementation of larger park improvement projects will also be required.


Essential Functions

  • Support the Park Design Team at all stages of project implementation
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate project activities to meet deadlines
  • Attend and coordinate project meetings with internal staff and project partners
  • Take meeting minutes and track action items
  • Develop detailed project schedules, reports, cost estimates, communication plans, and other official documents related to project implementation
  • Prepare and disseminate regular project status reports to advise management of the status of ongoing projects
  • Communicate with City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department partner liaisons
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to field personnel, contractors, etc.
  • Document construction progress
  • Conduct initial field inspections of contractor work to alert design team to review built work for compliance with plans and specifications
  • Maintain adherence to relevant City of Austin PARD standards, including design elements, construction details, and procurement processes
  • Track metrics of work performed and project performance over time
  • Monitor project budgets, process invoices, and ensure timely payments
  • Support APF events in the community such as It's My Park Day, Party for the Parks, and others as needed
  • Serve as an ambassador of APF in the community and build relationships
  • Gain knowledge of nonprofit structure, management, and funding mechanisms. Other duties as assigned (marketing support, design input, etc.)
  • Regularly travel to different locations around Austin

Requirements/Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a related field, plus two (2) years of experience in construction, engineering, landscape architecture, or related work
  • Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years
  • Preferred background in construction, landscape architecture, or related design disciplines
  • Highly organized with multitasking skills
  • Team player with a passion for parks and community connection
  • Excellent collaboration skills and understanding of the value of partnerships
  • Ability to communicate professionally, both written and orally
  • Ability to work on a small nonprofit team and step in to assist with various needs of the organization
  • Flexibility and problemsolving skills
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets; Powerpoint/Google Slides
  • Ability to drive to onsite locations
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required
  • Valid TX Driver's License and a clean driving record

Physical Demand & Work Environment

  • Must be able to perform frequent standing, driving, and walking
  • Move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Spend significant time outdoors and making site visits to remote locations to assess site conditions and project progress
  • Hybrid work environment; partially remote with frequent inperson meetings (both internal and external)

Salary Range Transparency
$50,000 - $70,000 USD per year, based on experience
