    Hours Vary and differ by season but September through May approximate: Monday- Friday (1 PM - 4 PM); June through August approximately Monday-Friday (9 AM to 4 PM)

    Drives bus or van to transport participants of City sponsored programs.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Specific assignment will include some or all of the following):
    • Drives bus or van to transport participants on route designated by the bus coordinator and/or center manager.
    • Complies with all traffic regulations.
    • Completes bus or van log for each trip.
    • Performs minor cleaning of the vehicles, including sweeping out the bus at the end of each trip.
    • Parks the bus or van in a designated location and secures the bus at the end of each trip.
    • Performs an interior and exterior safety check of the vehicle before and after driving.
    • Checks gas and oil before departure.
    • Refuels the vehicle as needed.
    • Performs annual safety lane inspections and washing of the vehicle.
    • Reports any vehicle damage to the bus coordinator and/or center manager and completes the necessary report as required.
    • Completes repair orders for the vehicle and submits them to the Fleet Services office.
    • Maintains a safe environment in the vehicle.
    • May assist with the loading and unloading of passengers.
    • May assist program staff in making sure participants have properly secured their seat belts.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK:
    • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
    • Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License with passenger and air brake endorsements.
    • Must possess two (2) or more years of professional driving experience
    • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities in the following areas:
    • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public, as well as the ability to greet the public in a courteous manner.
    • Knowledge of the operating characteristics of assigned equipment; the operating hazards and safety precautions of assigned equipment.
    • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, other employees, and the public.
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF WORK:
    Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions such as extreme cold, high winds, rain, snow, sleet, high temperatures and humidity; the ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 20 pounds without mechanical assistance; to sit for long periods of time, bend, and work outdoors with limited lighting; to work with chemicals, vehicles or equipment fumes and gasses.

    SUPERVISION:
    Work is performed under the general direction/supervision of the Center Manager in cooperation with the Bus Coordinator. Assignments may vary from season to season and day to day. Assignments can be either verbal or written, with the employee determining proper procedure and work methods and is responsible for completing the work according to City work rules and safety regulations. Work is reviewed through ongoing observation, written and verbal communication, meetings and feedback from supervisors and other department employees. Guidance is provided through rules and regulations, policies and procedures, Unified Work Rules, Union Contract, Personnel Rules and OSHA. Work is evaluated at least annually for the safe and skilled operation of equipment, quality of tasks, adherence to work rules, and performance in accordance with classification standard.

    PUBLIC CONTACT:
    The employee has regular contact with the general public when working his/her normal shift. They may be asked to field questions and respond to concerns. The employee has contact with other City employees to relay factual and specific information regarding work assignments.
