- Review and verify patient demographic and insurance information.
- Process and submit medical claims to insurance companies electronically or via paper submission.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims, resolving any issues or discrepancies as needed.
- Review explanation of benefits (EOB) statements and reconcile payments received with billed amounts.
- Investigate and appeal claim denials or underpayments as necessary.
- Communicate with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare providers to resolve billing inquiries and disputes.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date billing records in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with coding and data entry tasks as needed to support billing operations.
- Stay informed about changes in healthcare billing regulations and coding guidelines.
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification in medical billing and coding preferred.
- Proven experience as a Medical Billing Specialist or similar role in a healthcare setting.
- Thorough understanding of medical billing procedures, coding systems (ICD-10, CPT), and insurance regulations (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance).
- Proficiency in medical billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards.
