PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION


A highly experienced attorney who works independently and has major matter, team or client responsibilities as well as certain responsibilities for other attorneys on a project-specific/mentoring basis.

Frequently supervises professional teams working on legal matters. Work generally involves handling matters of very substantial importance.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide legal advice and representation to PECO's electric and natural gas delivery businesses in a variety of state and federal energy regulatory matters (e.g., compliance matters, enforcement matters, regulatory litigation) before the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and managing outside counsel assisting in such tasks.
  • Provide legal advice and representation to PECO's electric and natural gas delivery businesses in matters involving state and local municipal law, including the construction, operation and maintenance of its facilities and safety matters.
  • Provide general legal services to PECO business units, including drafting and negotiating contracts with customers and vendors, drafting service agreements, and other miscellaneous legal matters and managing outside counsel in such tasks.
  • Represent PECO's interests with electric and gas industry groups, including the Energy Association of Pennsylvania and American Gas Association and in those roles provide recommendations to the Company on policy initiatives, monitor regulatory developments, and comment on formal rulemakings.
  • Provide lead direction and/or project leadership direction to less experienced attorneys and support staff
  • Prepare, and revise as necessary, budgets and early matter assessments for all matters involving outside counsel
  • Projects / duties as assigned

JOB SCOPE

  • Manages relationships and matters with Business Units and outside counsel
  • Demonstrates superior business knowledge in portions of the business and industry; anticipates and understands trends in areas of law related to the business
  • Strong leadership skills; ability to work in stressful conditions under time deadlines

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in the relevant jurisdictions
  • At least 1012 years of professional experience in a specialized area of law
  • Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of the legal field to the completion of complex assignments
  • Requires excellent legal research, analytical abilities and an ongoing knowledge of federal and/or state law

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience managing or leading rate cases
  • Experience supervising or developing other attorneys
  • Knowledge of various ratemaking structures
  • Experience interacting with external utility stakeholders
