- and middle-income, immigrant, people of color, and marginalized communities can fully participate in U.S. society and work together as makers of lasting change. We are the Virginia affiliate of the NAKASEC Network.

Position Description:

The Health Services Coordinator at Hamkae Center will primarily work on leading our health services program, including signing community members up for health insurance during open enrollment periods (Affordable Care Act (ACA) / CHAP) and Medicaid/FAMIS throughout the year.

Outside of the open enrollment period, job duties will include answering questions and enrolling eligible people in the ACA through special enrollment as needed, connecting non-eligible community members to alternative coverage options or local health care services, coordinating outreach to local communities to promote Hamkae Center services, and supporting Hamkae Center staff in achieving organizational goals.

This position will include some in-office clerical work and paperwork processing to meet the individual needs of community members.


Responsibilities:

Service Provision (50%)

  • Enroll eligible individuals in appropriate health coverage and benefits programs and connect noneligible members with alternative programs and services.
  • Coordinate and support other staff in providing health services.
  • Obtain and maintain Health Navigator certification and stay informed about news and updates about health insurance eligibility and processes in VA
Community Outreach (20%)

  • Conduct outreach and provide education around health benefit programs (ACA, Medicaid, FAMIS, CHAP, etc.) focusing on Asian American communities in Northern Virginia
  • Assist in creating materials for, coordinate, and conduct outreach to media, organizations, and potential clients
  • Develop educational materials and trainings
  • Represent Hamkae Center in relevant coalitions and public events
Program Management (10%)

  • Ensure all aspects of the program are implemented on a timely basis and set and track goals and metrics accordingly
  • Collect and report accurate data on outreach and service activities; submit reports and proposal information on a timely basis
  • Build and maintain relationships and ongoing communication with local health services providers, other navigators locally and statewide, and relevant organizations to enhance the health services program
Teamwork (20%)

  • Provide Korean language support to other staff and team members when needed, such as answering Korean line phone calls and assist with emergency translations
  • Refer community members interested in other services to the appropriate staff member
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, team meetings, and other relevant internal meetings
  • Participate in organizationwide shared duties and expectations for fulltime employees as assigned
  • These can include (but are not limited to) supporting nonpartisan election protection activities on Election Day, promoting fundraising opportunities, and cofacilitating collaborative meetings
  • Being a thought partner to Team Leads on new programming/campaigns
  • Other duties as assigned

Key Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and Korean (Written, Speaking, Reading)
  • Experience with oneonone service provision assistance or individual support setting with a high level of professionalism (12 years minimum)

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with health insurance and affordability programs (including, but not limited to: Medicaid, FAMIS, ACA, and private coverage)
  • 1+ years' experience with program management
  • Direct experience working with Asian American communities in Virginia
