JOB DESCRIPTION




POSITION:
RIGGING SUPERINTENDENT


LOCATION:
Northeast IN / Central IN


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Aligns, levels and anchors cranes and equipment.
  • Assembles and installs supporting structures, rigging, hoist and pulling gear.
  • Connects pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures with bolts, shackles and clamps.
  • Cleans and dresses machine and surfaces of component parts.
  • Controls movements of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces.
  • Dismantles, maintains and stores rigging equipment.
  • Manipulates rigging lines, hoists to move or support materials, steel and concrete.
  • Selects gears, cables and shackles according to load size, facilities and work schedule.
  • Signals or gives direction to workers and equipment operators engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials.
  • Tests and inspects rigging and other machinery to ensure safety and reliability before engaging in hoisting, lifting, loading and offloading.
  • Final postrigging inspections to ensure items are safe.
  • Provides leadership, establishes and maintains effective and harmonious working relationships of the onsite staff and promotes positive project morale.
  • Has complete knowledge and understanding of the General Contract, each Subcontract, the contract drawings, specifications, and addenda; and assists the Project Manager in the development of the onsite procedures.
  • Examines and brings to attention as needed the contract drawings, specifications, and addenda for design deficiencies, impractical details and possible code violations
  • Supports the Project Manager and the Scheduling Manager in the development, refinement, and updating of the Project Schedule.
  • Plans and reviews the Construction Program with the Project Manager, including quality control procedures, safety and security practices, field office location and layout, temporary utilities, staging areas, equipment, and manpower.
  • Verifies that each Subcontractor has completed his contractual requirements as a condition precedent to beginning work at the job site. This includes a Certificate of Insurance, a fully executed Subcontract, a Schedule of Values, and a Safety Program.
  • Ensures that all required permits or licenses have been obtained and that a weatherproof bulletin board is installed on which all required safety notices are posted.
  • Cooperates with and directs, when necessary, the activities of the inspection agencies, and to effect remedial actions indicated by the reports of these agencies.
  • Chairs weekly coordination meetings and monthly safety meetings with subcontractors and issues typewritten minutes to the Project Manager.
  • Receives and reviews the Subcontractor's Daily Reports of work done and labor and material employed.
  • Reviews and approve the Subcontractor's monthly requests for payment.
  • Maintains good relations and communications with all involved in the project, including the public.
  • Ensures that subcontractors enforce their safety programs
- including the CCC Safety Program holding of toolbox safety meetings, orientations, reviewing Pre-Task Plans, etc.

  • Overtime and travel may be required.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Union Ironworker, Millwright or Boilermaker Journeyman preferred
  • Must have excellent mechanical reasoning
  • Must be able to assess loads, produce computation, and create lift plans
  • Must know current industry standards and regulations for using rigging mechanisms and devices
  • Must be skilled in positioning/preparing cranes and required lifting devices
  • Ability to ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations
  • Familiar and competent with latest industry t
