Job Objective:

A brief overview of the position.- In collaboration with the Director, Respiratory Care, plans designs, implements/operates, evaluates, and improves a comprehensive staff development program for Respiratory Care Services.

This position will focus on staff education and development to include:
performance improvement goals, quality. improvement and assessment (QI/QA), competency evaluation, and the evaluation and implementation of new modalities and products.

In collaboration with the Director and Manager, Respiratory Care Services, assess program efficiency and effectiveness, and implements appropriate changes in program operations.

This position is responsible for working with physicians, patients, and staff to maintain high quality care Respiratory Care.

Interacts with Respiratory Care, Medical, Nursing, and Case Management staff regarding pre-discharge patient assessment and discharge teaching for all modes of respiratory care.

Performs diagnostic testing to determine patients' needs for respiratory care modalities post-discharge. Serves as the Asthma and COPD Educator with a disease management focus. Provides smoking cessation education.-

Qualifications

Education- Required: Graduate from an Associate Degree Respiratory Therapy training program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Allied Health Professions (CAAHEP)

  • Preferred: Bachelor degree in Respiratory Therapy, Education, or related field. Adult Critical Care Specialists (ACCS) from the NBRC
    Licensure/Certification
  • Preferred: Certified Asthma Educator Post Nominals (AE-C) through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) within 12 months of hire.
  • Required: Current and valid Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license from the Respiratory Care Board of California (RCBC); Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC); BLS, PALS and ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Experience- Required: A minimum of three (3) years of acute care hospital experience

  • Preferred: Experience teaching RCP students, RCPs, and other health care team members. Certification or credential in education
    Essential Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
  • Designs, implements, evaluates, and improves the new employee initial orientation program and interdepartmental orientation/education programs, in collaboration with the Manager.
  • Designs, implements, evaluates, and improves and regarding a comprehensive department competency and continuing education programs to address new technology, medications, processes, supplies, policies, procedures, protocols, and compliance topics with current regulatory and professional standards, in collaboration with the Manager by conducting regularly scheduled presentation to staff.
Assists the Manager with the design, implementation, evaluation, and improvement of departmental policies, procedures, and protocols. Performs patient assessment and develops an appropriate plan of care according to hospital policy and protocols.
Performs routine respiratory care procedures as appropriate for clinical patient care areas and critical care areas according to hospital policy and protocols. Performs charting and documentation that is consistently complete, accurate, legible and informative. Serves as the main department resource with teaching and providing educational material to patients and/or significant others concerning respiratory care and pulmonary disease. Responds to emergency situations and provides appropriate and timely treatments; as scheduled and necessary, performs shift supervision during the absence of another Supervisor. Participates in activities and continuing education programs to promote professional and departmental growth.- Performs other duties as requested.
