Main responsibilities

  • Main responsibility is to carry out maintenance duties onshore / offshore as directed by the Workshop Foreman / Crane Supervisor.
  • Responsible for effectively carrying out tasks detailed on Sparrows Job Cards as per Sparrows Workshop Procedures which include but not limited to, strip, inspect, report and test all components associated with offshore pedestal cranes, winches, hook blocks, booms, A Frames, chassis, diesel engines, gearboxes, hydraulic pumps, hydraulic motors, hydraulic valves, safe load indicators, life boat davits, loose lifting gear, gantry cranes and control systems with the objective of maintaining safe operations, compliance to international standards, maintaining integrity and reliability.
  • Responsible for carrying out speciality repairs and project work such as, but not limited to, installation of new cranes, removal of cranes from the offshore environment, slew bearing change outs, fabrication of new structural components, troubleshooting and repair of electronic SLI system and complex hydraulic systems.
  • Liaise daily with Workshop Foreman / Crane Supervisor to advise him of status of ongoing work, highlighting any possible problems/concerns.
  • Prepare daily reports detailing the work carried out, preparation of spare parts lists, details of parts to be repaired and compilation of delivery notes.
  • Submit reports on all activities, surveys, inspections certification, maintenance etc. at a frequency to be set by the Company.
  • Repairs and replacement of hoist and structural components including complete machine overhaul and refurbishment.
  • Load testing, inspection and certification of Company's cranes and other lifting equipment.
  • Maintaining a colour coding system for all lifting equipment & containers and testing and marking of escape ropes and accessories as per company guidelines.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with facility representatives to ensure an efficient service is provided on an ongoing basis.
  • The incumbent is responsible for giving a detailed report of any mechanical handling & lifting incidents to the Workshop Foreman / Crane Supervisor, within 24 hours of the event.
  • Participate in risk assessment processes to ensure that all lifting activities are thoroughly reviewed and risks controlled prior to implementation
  • When working overhead cranes, carry out daily routine checks on the crane in accordance with the maintenance procedures and prestart checklist
  • Inspect the job site to ensure compliance with Safe Practices and Procedures. Maintain quality of safety in the crane group and participate in facility safety reviews.
  • The incumbent must adopt a cooperative attitude towards being assigned alternative or additional duties to that which they are primarily employed which may include working additional hours (overtime).
HSEQ responsibilities

  • It is mandatory that the incumbent is familiar with, and follows the company's health, safety, environment and quality management system and takes an active part in the compliance and improvement of the management systems.
  • The incumbent must report any accidents, incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services or systems according to the management system processes/procedures.
  • The incumbent also has legal responsibilities under countryspecific health, safety and/or environmental legislation to follow all company policies, procedures, guidelines, control measures, signage and permit conditions and to know what to do in an emergency.
  • The incumbent is also responsible for the health and safety arrangements of subordinates (if any) and for any persons visiting them while on the company premises.

Pay:
$ $30.00 per hour


Experience:


  • Mechanical knowledge: 1 year (preferred)

License/Certification:
