LINEMAN/ ADVANCED APPRENTICE POSITION CITY OF ROCK FALLS
OBJECTIVE:
Perform construction, maintenance and repair of municipal electric distribution system; (including but not limited to) energized lines, structures and equipment associated with the delivery of transmission, distribution and secondary electricity.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assure all work is performed safely according to City safety policies.
- Material is installed per specifications and standard utility practices.
- Assure all safety clearances are met per N.E.S.C.
- Assure the utility customers will receive reliable electric service.
- Follow City rules and safety practices at all times.
- Locates sources of service interruption or other troubles; performs necessary construction, maintenance or repair to restore service
- Keeps necessary records as to time, material and work orders
- Tree trimming around lines to meet standards of line clearances N.E.S.C. (National Electrical Safety Code).
- Maintain and repair equipment
- Assure all tools are used correctly and are in good working order
- Able to follow instructions as well as delegate instructions and work habits to junior employee's and Apprentice Lineman.
- Patrol lines and record findings for needed maintenance
- General operation and maintenance of City Hydro facility and Diesel Generators
- Ability to recognize and make suggestions for system improvements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School graduate/GED
- Good physical condition
- Complete an approved Linemen Apprenticeship program
- Valid State of Illinois CDL Class "A" Driver's License
- Participate in and on call after hour rotation basis
- Live in or be willing to relocate to a 30 minute radius of the Rock Falls Electric Department
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Personnel must be physically able to climb a 30foot ladder carrying 30pounds of tools and equipment and work off the top of the ladder at arm's reach for 30minutes.
- Be physical fit to climb a 70toot poles and install equipment weighing up to 70pounds
- Be physical able to bend over for 30minutes working below ground level installing equipment and operating hand tools up to 30pounds.
- Be physically conditioned to withstand weather conditions of the Midwest from extreme hot to extreme cold conditions.
Pay:
$ $45.58 per hour
