    What We're Searching For

    Are you eager to play a key role in roadway design projects? HNTB is involved in exciting transportation initiatives in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. We are on the lookout for a Project Engineer to join our Roadway Group and contribute to delivering top-tier projects to our clients.

    As a Project Engineer, your role will involve coordinating and executing transportation engineering projects efficiently within defined scope, budget, and timelines from inception to completion. These projects can vary from small intersection improvements to large-scale interchange and bridge reconstruction projects, including multimodal enhancements. The projects may follow traditional delivery methods or be Design-Build ventures.

    Your responsibilities will include serving as a technical expert for the office, handling specific design aspects related to roadway design on projects, and coordinating the technical and project deliverables of the assigned design team. Additionally, you will participate in planning-level studies that require integrating pedestrian, bicycle, and transit facilities into concept-level roadway designs.

    We provide a flexible work schedule, and this position will primarily be based in Boston, MA.

    What You'll be Doing:

    • Responsible for planning and assigning discipline-specific tasks, adhering to project schedules and budgets.
    • Assisting in marketing tasks, including proposal creation.
    • Contributing to defining scope of work and effort levels for projects within the discipline.
    • Ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the project team's work in the technical discipline. Providing guidance to achieve overall project goals.
    • Coordinating technical project aspects with client counterparts and teaming partners on a staff level within the discipline.
    • Collaborating with other disciplines on projects involving multiple fields.
    • Performing additional tasks as required.

    What You'll Require:

    • Master's degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or
    • PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience.

    What You'll Bring to the Table:

    • Mentoring less experienced engineers on technical designs.
    • Collaborating with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
    • Building effective relationships with clients collaboratively.
    • Experience in integrating safe and accessible facilities for pedestrians and bicycles into roadway designs.
    • Experience in grade-separated interchanges or limited access highway design.
    • Incorporating transit-related elements like bus stops and exclusive bus lanes into roadway designs.
    • Collaborating with clients, stakeholders, and various engineering disciplines to develop roadway designs supporting mobility for all users.

    What We'd Prefer:

    • 8 years of relevant experience.
    • Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of MassDOT and AASHTO project requirements.
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
