Contra Costa County Department of Information Technology (DoIT) is seeking to add one (1) talented individual to serve as a key member of its Telecommunications team as the Lead Telecommunications Specialist.

DoIT offers centralized telecommunications services to support both routine and critical County operations.

What you will typically be responsible for:

  • Providing technical and functional lead direction to the team
  • Providing training and safe work practices
  • Constructing and assembling custom designed and/or oneoff or off the shelf telecommunications equipment solutions
  • Using test equipment and software programs to perform inhouse diagnostics of telephone and other related equipment
  • Attending conference calls and meetings to assist in keeping the team organized
  • Assisting in various tasks to help keep the team/office onpoint and running smoothly
  • Writing reports on emergency breakdowns or failures which have been repaired
  • Processing telecommunications service work requests and repair orders if needed
  • Documenting workflow to ensure efficiency and effectiveness

Minimum Qualifications:


Education:

Twelve (12) college semester or eighteen (18) college units with primary emphasis on telecommunications or electronic technology or closely related field.


Experience:

Four (4) years professional enterprise-level experience in a journey-level position, performing installation, servicing, and repair of large PBX or IP-based call manager phone systems for large corporations or government entities.


Substitution:

One (1) year of additional journey-level experience, including military, or completion of one (1) of Communications Technicians Apprenticeship program may be substituted for the required education.


Desirable Qualifications:


  • Experience in IP network design, configuration, and maintenance
  • Understanding of A/V systems and digital services
  • Experience in telecommunications equipment power systems, including AC/DC, UPS batteries and generators
  • Ability to research an unknown topic that results in a viable fix or solution
