The Associate Director, renewable energy and carbon offset procurement lead will be a key strategic leader responsible for driving environmental sustainability.

Leveraging your deep expertise in renewable energy and carbon offset, supplier engagement, and stakeholder management, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, senior stakeholders and our supplier network.

You will lead the category and leverage strong communication skills and program management expertise to rapidly adapt and scale our program in a dynamic environment.


Our sourcing teams partner with the business to ensure the efficient acquisition of goods and services that enable the commercialization of our medicines, vaccines, and Animal Health products.

We collaborate internationally and are grouped into center-led categories and regional operating teams.


Position Description:


  • The Associate Director of Renewable Energy and Carbon Offset Procurement and Sourcing will report to the Director Energy & Utilities and Renewable Energy lead and will lead the sourcing and risk management for renewable energy and carbon offset strategies to achieve the corporate sustainability goals.
  • Partnering with leaders throughout the organization, the primary objectives of this role are to:
  • Manages the global portfolio of renewable energy and carbon offset initiatives from end to end, including direct and virtual power purchase agreements (VPPA), utility green tariffs, renewable energy credits, carbon offsets, sustainable business solutions and services.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for the Company's renewable energy and carbon offset risk management program with support of business partners and thirdparty advisors.
  • Lead the sourcing of carbon offsets annually from 2025 through project development, forward purchasing, and spot market purchases.
  • Supports our Company Sites ( ~65 sites) globally for evaluation of their local PPA's, green tariffs etc. to ensure alignment with the overall renewable energy portfolio strategy.
  • Leads the Renewable Energy Supply Strategy Council and provides updates to senior leaders on the drivers, risks, opportunities and progress being made with the Team.
  • Provides high quality renewable energy and carbon offset market intelligence and analysis to key business partners in order to support strategic purchasing and risk management decisions.
  • Leads the renewable energy and carbon offset Team's assessment of business requirements, generation and evaluation of strategic options, development of business cases for selected options, and reporting out of actual renewable energy and carbon offsets.

Primary capabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Business Outcome Orientation; uses in-depth knowledge of stakeholder needs, market trends and risks and proactively provides market intelligence to identify and tailor renewable energy and carbon offset procurement activities to positively impact stakeholder relationships, improve the quality of decisions, and reduce risk to the Company.
  • Category &Technical Expertise;
  • Applies indepth Energy and Utilityspecific knowledge to propose recommendations to enhance existing and/or introduce new renewable energy and carbon offset procurement processes or service capabilities that align with and support our corporate energy and sustainability goals.
  • Direct experience with sourcing and contracting utility scale renewable power purchase agreements (i.e., virtual, direct offtake) and procurement environmental sustainability program management.
  • Change Management;
  • Lead change management activities to identify issues and make necessary adjustments to keep the renewable energy and carbon offset portfolio activities on track. Identifies comprehensive group of stakeholders from across the entire business and at appropriate senior levels to drive support for projects and initiatives.
  • Builds support for proposed solutions by influencing through others and making the case for change relevant to our business and sustainability goals.
  • Negotiation and Contract Management;
  • Sets, leads, and implements negotiation strategies with key suppliers and uses innovative solutions to resolve conflicts.
  • Manages complex agreements such as VPPAs, energy service agreements, and advises on abovesite level renewable energy and carbon offset supply agreements to improve value and reduce risks to our Company.
  • Leverage internal/external expertise and make financially impactful decisions regarding the procurement and risk management of renewable energy and carbon offset.
