Description
Provides formal and informal ethics consultations. Organizes and participates in clinical ethics forums and collaborations. Serves as a facilitator and resource within the system toward strengthening the clinical staff's professional code of ethics.

Job Responsibility

  • Provides consultation services on all aspects of medical ethics; identifies clinical ethical issues and ethically appropriate treatment options.
  • Provides problemsolving and informational expertise; promotes efforts to resolve conflict among participants by analyze medical information and providing problemsolving and informational expertise.
  • Facilitates clinical, patient and family education, counseling and discussions in the areas of ethics; addresses questions about surrogate decisionmakers and/or patient advance directives; addressing question about ethical policies, such as resuscitation or withholding/ withdrawing lifesustaining treatment.
  • Participates in team meetings and conferences to enhance interdisciplinary approach to patient centered care; develops ethics resources and education.
  • Acts as resource to staff and implements education programs; assist in planning and participates in future educational activities.
  • Participates in approved medical and nursing research studies; maintains a current level of knowledge relative to ethical professional practice and values. Performs related duties as required. Job Qualification

  • Master's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Current Certified Healthcare Ethics National Certification in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
  • 13 years of relevant experience, required.
