    Position Summary:

    The ADON position is responsible for the management and direction of Nursing Services for the Donlon & Pedan units at the Kansas Veterans' Home. The position involves the responsibility for organizing, supervising, and coordinating work of a staff of professional, para-professional, and non-professional deliverers of nursing care; maintaining professional, legal and ethical standards of performance, and may provide input to the development of facility policies.

    Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

    Supervision. Will supervise the Nursing Department for the Donlon & Pedan units as well as complete evaluations on the RN's & LPN's assigned to supervise those units. Will be the reviewer for the subordinates evaluated by those supervisors. Will be assigned duties as House Supervisor while on duty with an established rotation with second ADON. Utilize conflict resolution techniques when appropriate to maintain harmonious working environment. Advocates for resident and staff wellbeing. Leads by example to provide professional nursing care to residents. Identifies successes in others as well as behavior that needs to be improved. Is at work on time as scheduled and acts as a good steward with taxpayer's money. Will fill in as unit nurse during regular nurse's time off. May have the delegated authority of the absence of the DON.

    Coordinator of Nursing Care. Coordinate's nursing services. Plans, organizes, directs, and conducts work in area of responsibility. Handles information from various sources with respect for the source. Examines multiple options to accomplish the objectives at hand. Demonstrates competence or is capable of rapid learning in the areas of geriatric nursing. Accepts responsibility willingly and follows up on the consequences of action taken. Identifies needs of others and assists to fulfill needs. Delegates tasks according to established protocol. Will ensure proper compliance for infection control, restorative programs, wound care and weight management for assigned units.

    Orientation Training. Coordinates orientation for nursing staff as assigned. Provides information regarding nursing policy, tours areas to show work assignments, supplies, breaks, etc. Completes competency checks for all nursing staff and medication administration check off sheets for CMA's, LPN's, and RN's. Provides support and training as needed for professional nurses. Provides follow up after orientation. May assist in setting up interviews and checking references. Teaches/instructs classes as part of the training program for nurses and allied health workers.

    Provide Supervision over Admissions . Will ensure proper delegation of nursing duties and ensure timely and accurate completion of admissions for assigned units. Will complete nursing portion of admissions as needed. Will work with IDT to ensure continuity of care. Will participate in pre-admission screening process. May be required to conduct on-site visits as determined by pre-admission team. Will coordinate admission procedure on day of admission.

    QA/Utilization Review. Will review individual care, incident report forms and resident charts to provide Quality Assurance monitoring with nursing and medical records. Will collect and investigate data. Will report inconsistencies to DON. Will collaborate with DON and other interdisciplinary members to develop and action plan to address findings of inconsistencies or areas that need improvement. Will be a member of the quality Assurance/Utilization Review Committee. The ADON is appointed as QAPI Coordinator and will chair both the Nursing Care/Administration meeting and the Domiciliary Meeting. The ADON is responsible for ensuring that Unit Coordinators gather, analyze, and present specific data, issues, concerns, and plan of corrections to the QAPI team. The ADON is responsible to assist Unit Coordinators and other Department Supervisors in gathering and formatting data as assistance is needed.

    Other. Performs special assignments or special projects as may be delegated by the Medical Director, Director of Nursing, Clinical Director, or Superintendent, and completes these assignments within the time frames and in accordance with special instructions given at the time the assignment or project is assigned. Will be on-call as required by management.

    Qualifications:

    Education :

    General Education

    Licensing & Certification :

    Current Kansas Registered Nurse License with the State of Kansas.

    Minimum Qualifications :

    Ability to: 1) apply nursing techniques as directed to patient care situations, 2) coordinate the services of a staff of professionals to provide appropriate nursing care to a group of patients, 3) follow specific or general procedures and directions, 4) prepare and maintain records, charts and reports, 5) maintain a helpful and sympathetic attitude towards patients under trying conditions and to maintain harmonious working relationships with subordinates and supervisors, and 6) supervise and instruct a subordinate staff of professional, paraprofessional and non-professional personnel responsible for the care and treatment of the physically ill, mentally ill, emotionally disturbed and or developmentally disabled.

    Prefer: 1) ability to accurately enter medical information into an electronic medical records system, 2) ability to identify accurately and timely appropriate follow up for patient care, and 3) ability to influence others for the care of the resident..

    Preferred Qualifications :

    Independent work experience in registered nursing. Prefer one year of supervisory experience. Prefer six months work experience with geriatric population.
