SUMMARY:


THIS ASSIGNMENT WILL BEGIN ON MAY 16TH AND WILL ED AUGUST 9TH.This position works to maintain the day-to-day operations of the assigned area, including assisting with the planning and coordinating of programs, activities and services for children, teens, and families.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


HS Diploma/GED from an accredited education agency;
AND any related experience or volunteer work, that includes working in a library or with children in an educational environment, and customer service.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting with the coordinating of programs, activities and services for children, teens, and families.
  • Provides customer services to the general public, library, city staff, and other work-related contacts as needed, whether in person, by phone or online platforms
  • Provides support to the circulation desk to check out, renew, reserve and process returns of library materials
  • Ensures workspaces in the library and common areas are maintained and cleaned.
  • Responds to customer inquiries and assists with customers in finding library materials.
  • Creating and maintaining library displays using assigned themes.
  • May conduct library tours.
  • May be required to perform other Library Department duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Knowledge of educational and ageappropriate development, and interest levels of children and teens.
  • Knowledge of computers and programs used in libraries.
  • Knowledge of public library operations.
  • Skill in resolving problems or situations requiring the exercise of good judgment.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to a wide variety of library users.
  • Ability to interpret and enforce policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and volunteers.
  • Ability to quickly absorb knowledge of methods, practices, and terminology, used in Library operations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of workrelated issues and City information.

Interpersonal Relationships


Have a high level of social contact working closely with individuals, of all ages and social economic status and backgrounds.

Hours/Travel

Works an assigned schedule Tuesday-Saturday based on library operation hours.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

Typically work indoors. Work in an open space with other people.

Frequently required to sit, stand at computer while using hands, arms, and fingers to reach and input data in systems.

Must be able to kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, climb, and work in confined spaces. Exposure to noise from close by departments, co-workers, and the public. Exposure to dust, odors, and mechanical and electrical hazards. May lift and move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.

Disaster Service Workers Clause


Always in the event of a declared emergency or any undeclared emergency or natural disaster that threatens the life, health and/or safety of the public, designated employees may be assigned to assist rescue and relief workers.

Such assignments may be in locations, during hours and performing work significantly different from the employees' normal work assignments and may continue through the recovery phase of the emergency.
