Founded in 1973, the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) is a steadfast advocate on behalf of the brain tumor community in the U.S.

where we help patients, caregivers and their loved ones. ABTA is seeking an inclusive, open-minded, visionary leader to serve as the new
President & CEO.

As the chief executive of ABTA, and in partnership with the Board of Directors, the President & CEO is responsible for the success of the ABTA.

Working in conjunction with the Board of Directors, this position ensures the accomplishment of ABTA's mission and vision, the accountability to ABTA's diverse constituents, and its relevance to the community.

The President & CEO cultivates a supportive and inclusive work environment and working relationship for all employees, donors, patients, and other constituents.

This role focuses on the core functions of the organization to enable it to achieve its long-term goals.

It is preferred the President & CEO be located in the Chicagoland area. This is a hybrid position which may include a typical office environment. In addition, this position requires extensive travel throughout the U.S. (up to approximately 30% travel).


How You'll Serve Our Organization

Board Governance

  • Responsible for leading the ABTA in a manner that supports and guides the organization's mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

Fiscal Management and Fundraising

  • Responsible for annual revenue of approximately $10M$15M.
  • Cultivate, build, and maintain relationships with constituents, donors, organizations to promote the mission of the ABTA and solicit financial support of the ABTA.
  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the ABTA, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.

Organization Mission and Strategy

  • Responsible for implementation of ABTA's programs that carry out the organization's mission.
  • Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that ABTA can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
  • Responsible for the enhancement of ABTA's image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, community, and private organizations.

Organization Operations/Strategic Leadership

  • Provides oversight and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are effective.
  • Responsible for signing notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into on behalf of the organization.

Advocacy and Public Relations

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the association, representing its interests to the public, media, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Advocate for the association's mission and goals through effective communication, including social media channels, and collaboration with government agencies, industry partners, and other organizations.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

What We Ask For

  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred, with at least 10 years of senior management experience; nonprofit management experience with a voluntary health organization preferred.
  • Proven track record of key leadership roles with regional or national highperformance and outcomesbased organizations; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth.
  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and datadriven program evaluation.
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach, manage, and develop highperformance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives.
  • Financial acumen and experience in budget development and management.
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate board member relationships.
  • Strong fundraising, mission, marketing, and public relations experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project management skills.
  • Actionoriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
  • Possessing integrity, positiveattitude, missiondriven, and selfdirected.

What we offer The projected compensation range for this individual is $220,000 to $235,000 and a potential bonus.
