    We have six lawyers and exclusively practice criminal defense in federal and state courts throughout Michigan. Our work atmosphere is very professional but friendly. The firm's staff, lawyers, and partners are treated as equals; we do not have a hierarchy of importance. Everyone's ideas, thoughts, work, and time are valuable. Although most days are not too intense, some days can be pretty busy, and the pressure increases. Our clients range from OWI and shoplifting to very serious cases such as homicide, criminal sexual conduct, and federal conspiracies. Ideally, we would like to hire an experienced paralegal who would like to work with us for the long term, not as a stepping stone or a temporary stop by someone looking for many different employment experiences. We offer a competitive salary, health insurance, and a retirement plan for long-term employees.

    To be successful, you would need to do the following:

    • outstanding client service and communication,
    • communicate with opposing counsel (usually prosecutors, US attorneys, and their staff),
    • legal research with Westlaw,
    • draft legal pleadings, including motions, briefs, appearances, notices, discovery demands, etc.,
    • draft letters and emails,
    • be a team member, including being assertive, sharing ideas, and suggesting approaches to lawyers and partners,
    • be reliable and dependable,
    • assist with proofreading and writing, and
    • help with the firm's website (proofreading, blogging, etc.).

    We are only interested in candidates with experience working for a lawyer or law firm and proficient in legal writing and research.
