Work Year Calendar and Hours:
  • 12-month position (260 days/year), 8 hours per day
  • Daily work hours: 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM

Salary:
  • Support Salary Grade S03: $16.80 per hour; starting
  • Under the Fair Labor and Standards Act, this position is non-exempt from overtime. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Frederick County Public School System.

Role:

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining facilities in excellent operational condition, cleanliness, and safety to ensure optimal use by students, staff, and visitors.


Essential Functions:
  • Consistently perform daily custodial tasks in the assigned area.
  • Consistently perform periodic custodial tasks including dusting and window cleaning.
  • Perform seasonal tasks like snow removal and grass mowing.
  • Perform deep cleaning tasks such as refinishing floors and high cleaning.
  • Perform as-needed custodial tasks like graffiti removal and light bulb replacement.
  • Maintain cleanliness levels meeting defined standards.
  • Assist other personnel as needed throughout the facility.
  • Lock and unlock buildings and rooms.

Secure facility when not in use:

Check for unlocked doors/windows/gates, arm the alarm, turn off lights, and report unauthorized occupants to prevent property damage and liability.

  • Report promptly for work and maintain good attendance.
  • Adapt positively to change and cooperate with colleagues.
  • Display teamwork, professionalism, and follow directions effectively.
  • Attend training sessions to enhance skills.
  • Work varied shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Occupational Safety Duties:
  • Maintain work areas in a safe and sanitary manner.
  • Monitor work areas to prevent injuries and ensure safety.
  • Operate equipment safely and report any issues promptly.
  • Communicate unsafe conditions and incidents promptly.

Other Functions:
  • Reassignment between work shifts may occur per the Negotiated Agreement.
  • Communicate effectively and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Perform duties as assigned by superiors.
