JOB TITLE: Cook

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

REPORTS TO: Dietary Director/ Administrator

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The cook is responsible and in charge of the kitchen and dining room operations in absence of dietary managers.
Assist dietary supervisor in preparing variety of delicious menus. Checks the menu items ingredients for quality, wholesomeness, and quantity.
Prepare, cook nutritious, tasteful meals and snacks with knowledge of diet preparation, garnishment and presentation.
Ensures all standardized recipes are followed as they are written.
Coordinates in checking the next day's food production needs, thaw frozen items in a timely manner.
Assist wait staff/ servers and dishwasher as needed.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Have a high school diploma, SERVSAFE Certification required
Able to read, write, understand and communicate in English.
Able to follow written and verbal directions and apply practical problem solving skills if needed.
Experience of minimum 2 years of providing food service for larger community.
Basic computer knowledge, Demonstrate a professional demeanor.
Have current Adult First Aid card at time of employment and maintain throughout length of employment.
This position requires hospitality skills, multiple tasking, willing to cross train, flexibility to cover shifts /call offs and "fill in" roles outside their primary job responsibilities (delegated by the Supervisor or the Dept Lead)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

In a typical 8 hrs. Shift, Cook may routinely be required to stoop, carry, bend, squat kneel, crouch, climb, grip, reach, drive push and pull and lift up to 50 pounds. Ask for assistance if you cannot do lifts by self. Cook will be required to use fine motor & manual dexterity skills in writing and typing and be working around equipment like burner, oven, fryer, griller, walk in refrigeration, ice machine, steamers, coffee makers, dish machine and cleaning agents & chemicals.
