    Job Summary:
    Under the direct and immediate supervision of a surgeon, provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, and other technical functions to assist the surgeon in performing safe operations with optimal results for the patient. Puts members/patients and their needs as the primary focus of actions; develops and maintains productivity.
    Essential Responsibilities:
    • This position knows and complies with all Kaiser Permanente quality, safety, and emergency policies and procedures. Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice in every interaction with patients, colleagues, providers, and leadership. Ensures patient safety during care provision concerning medications, procedures, infection prevention, fall prevention, and more. Reports safety hazards and incidents promptly.
    • Positions the patient as per the surgeon's instructions for optimal exposure during surgery. Utilizes equipment for patient positioning.
    • Provides surgeons with proper visualization of the operative site and assists with hemostasis and closure techniques according to standards. Applies wound dressings as needed.
    • Assists Anesthesia with various tasks such as intubation and extubation for patient care.
    • Assists in patient transport to and from the operating room.
    • Required to perform additional assigned duties.
    • The union and the company are investigating the bargaining unit status of this position. If determined a bargaining unit position, relevant status will be retroactively applied.
    Basic Qualifications:
    Experience
    • Minimum of two (2) years operating experience required.
    Education
    • High School Graduation or General Education Development (GED) required.
    License, Certification, Registration
    • National Assistant Surgery Council Certificate from National Assistant at Surgery Council OR Surgical Assistant Certificate from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting OR National Surgical Assistant Association Certificate from National Surgical Assistant Association OR American Board of Surgical Assistants Certificate from American Board of Surgical Assistants
    • National Provider Identifier required at hire
    Additional Requirements:
    • Employment contingent upon receiving credentials at HealthOne, SCL Health Systems and all KP owned or affiliated surgical venues to practice as a Surgical Assistant.
    • Demonstrated customer service skills, customer focus abilities, and understanding of Kaiser Permanente customer needs.
    • May be assigned to work at any KP owned or affiliated Surgical Venues.
    • Taxonomy code required at time of hire.
    • Credentialed within 6 months of hire with affiliated facilities.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Minimum of three (3) years operating experience preferred.
