Briarpatch Youth Services has an exciting job opportunity for a skilled professional. The agency is a dynamic non-profit community organization that has served Dane County since 1971.

Briarpatch provides a broad array of services to more than 2,000 youth annually who have runaway, are experiencing homelessness, are justice involved, or facing other challenges.


Youth Advocate

Days/Hours:

This is a full-time 40 hours per week position.

Work hours will vary depending on program need, with many hours scheduled for first or second shift Monday through Friday.

Overnight and weekends will be required for on-call responsibilities.

Pay Range:

Starting pay $21.50 per hour. Additional compensation may be available based on demonstrated bi-lingual abilities, job-related advanced degrees, and professional experience.

Description:

The person in this position provides services to youth of the Briarpatch Runaway & Homeless Youth (RHY) Program, including both shelter and non-shelter clients.


Duties:


  • Provides intake assessment, counseling, and case management services to youth and their families.
  • Provides support and engagement for individual and group activities of Shelter residents when needed.
  • Establishes and maintains a case file on assigned clients. Documents client contacts in the case file, and completes case related documentation in accordance with RHY and agency standards.
  • Participates in Community Outreach Activities that increase awareness and knowledge of Briarpatch RHY Services.
  • Provides assistance and support to RHY volunteers and interns.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of RHY and agency policies and procedures.
  • Reviews and approves requests for placing youth in shortterm shelter care in accordance with agency policies and state regulations.
  • Participates in the RHY oncall counselor rotation that includes evening and weekend hours and requires youth shelter counselor credentials.
  • Answers and responds to calls from the RHY helpline as necessary.
  • Performs other reasonable and related duties as assigned

Education/Experience Qualifications:


  • Requires an associate degree in human services or a related field from an accredited college or university; or, the equivalent of two (2) years of fulltime experience working in a human services or adolescent youth development setting.
  • Applicants should possess a working understanding of Trauma Informed Care, Positive Youth Development and Harm Reduction.

Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand at a desk for most of the day.

Supervisory Responsibilities:


  • None.

Reliable Transportation:


  • This position requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that will allow the person to operate and agencyowned motor vehicle.
  • Reliable transportation to work required.
