SUMMARY
Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians (Gun Lake Tribe) is seeking seasonal Gteganes Makjewit (Garden Workers) to assist with Mno Mijem (Good Food) Sovereignty Programs including but not limited to planting, maintaining, weeding and harvesting.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED
- Basic knowledge of garden processes
- Familiarity with Potawatomi culture
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist with the Tribal garden and harvesting efforts that will include, but are not limited to:
- Tilling
- Preparing the ground for gardening
- Greenhouse work
- Planting
- Watering
- Weeding
- Harvesting
- Seed saving
- Preserving produce
- Distribution of produce
- Assist in maintaining equipment (Kubota, gardening equipment, etc.)
- Work at all seasonal events including but not limited to the Harvest Feast
- Assist with maintenance and housekeeping of garden house, greenhouse and barn
- Assist with the inventory of all equipment and resources
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must have good organizational skills and the ability to multitask
- Must have a desire to work outside
- Flexible, highly organized
- Punctual and reliable
- Ability or willingness to learn to drive utility vehicle
- Ability or willingness to learn all food processing and gardening equipment
- Must be selfmotivated and able to work independently at times
- Ability to work with all age groups
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality according to Tribal, State and Federal standards and guidelines
CON
DITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- First Aid certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire
- ServSafe food handling certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire
- This position will require nontraditional hours including working evenings, weekends and holidays as required for evening classes, seasonal events, to meet program requirements and deadlines
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely in the field and regularly exposed to adverse weather (i.e., rain, heat, cold, etc.) and adverse working conditions (i.e., dirt, soil, mud)
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and lift up to 60lbs routinely
