Description
Training as a Microtechnologist
The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg is the largest solar research institute in Europe.

Our approximately 1400 employees work towards a sustainable, economic, secure, and socially just energy supply system based on renewable energies.

To achieve this, we contribute with our research focuses on energy provision, distribution, storage, and utilization.

Through outstanding research results, successful industrial projects, company spin-offs, and global collaborations, we shape the sustainable transformation of the energy system.

At Fraunhofer ISE, industrial processes for the production of crystalline silicon solar cells have been developed for many years. As an apprentice, you will learn about the essential steps of solar cell production.

Wet chemical processes and coating processes play important roles, in which the surfaces of the silicon wafers are coated with thin functional layers.

Various measurement methods are used to evaluate the process results, which you will also learn about. The work is mainly carried out in a particularly clean environment, the clean rooms. Controlling and implementing the clean room conditions are essential aspects of the training.

With a connected vocational training as a microtechnologist, you will be able to work not only in the research and production of solar cells, but also in the production of silicon-based electronic components.

During your training, you will support our scientists in developing new technologies for environmentally friendly energy production. You will have the opportunity to contribute your
