Class Summary

  • The Computer Lab Assistant II is the second level in a threelevel instructional lab support series. The Computer Lab Assistant is responsible for providing students, faculty, staff and community members with assistance on library resources, computes and other technologies in a safe and comfortable learning environment.

The Computer Lab Assistant will be expected to work with integrity, sound judgment, attention to detail, discretion, and to demonstrate the characteristics of teamwork, inclusiveness, calmness, and adaptability to a broad range of issues, people, and situations.

They will be flexible in order to best meet the demands of the students and the needs of the department.

    Minimum Education/Training/Experience
  • An associates degree, and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Preferred Education/Training/Experience

  • Experience in a customer service setting.
Experience in a College setting.
Experience working with computers in a professional or educational setting.


Minimum Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to work in a publicfacing environment with a diverse population that have different backgrounds, communication and technical skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a sometimes fast paced environment.
  • Familiarity with the College environment.
  • Familiarity with different device operating systems and platforms such as Windows, MAC OS Android and iOS.
  • Ability to become familiar with the College of the Mainland organization and departments sufficient to be able to refer students to appropriate departments as needed.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing and database software.
  • Ability to prioritize work and performing multiple tasks.

Job Duties

  • Helps ensure that the library lab is a pleasant and orderly environment for students, faculty staff and community members.
  • Answers general and directional questions.
  • Answers general questions about library resources.
  • Refers research questions to librarians.
  • Enters transactions with students, faculty, staff and community into the library system.
  • Refers students to other College departments as needed.
  • Troubleshoots issues with computers and various devices, submitting work orders as needed.
  • Ensures that lab users login to use computers.
  • Assists librarians with library instruction classes by getting student counts, posting signs and preparing computers.
  • Oversees office equipment used in the computer lab (printers, scanners, etc.).
  • Enforces library lab policies.
  • Informs staff supplies when are needed.
  • Answers the phone and perform other routine clerical tasks.
  • Performs miscellaneous jobrelated duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Work requires stooping, crouching, talking, seeing, hearing, repetitive motions.
  • Work requires sedentary work/sitting greater than 50% of the time.

Minimum Salary Range
- $10.40/hour
