Responsibilities
As a social assistant, you help people cope with their daily lives. This includes taking on pedagogical, support, household, or social care tasks.

For example, you may assist a single mother with a disability in her household and ensure that her two children complete their homework.

Or you may organize a graffiti workshop for a group of troubled teenagers and educate them about the legal consequences of illegal graffiti activities.

Your professional activities can vary greatly depending on your focus and interests. In the context of family care, you primarily work in private households. Here, you temporarily take on typical household management tasks.

In facilities for people with disabilities and nursing homes, you primarily assist with nursing care and creative support for residents.

This may include assisting elderly or special needs caregivers with basic care or organizing a game afternoon.

In child and youth work, you are a caregiver, confidant, and advisor all in one.

Thanks to your open and empathetic nature, you can quickly connect with children and young people, and you have a good understanding of their wishes and dreams, as well as their worries and concerns.

You are always there to listen and provide support for problems with school or home life.

You also ensure a variety of leisure activities, such as a foosball tournament, canoe trip, or bike tour – boredom is rare with you.
