Description

This is supervisory work in ACE's Early Learning Program focusing on the provision of education services for all children, including those with disabilities and Dual Language Learners.

The Education Coordinator directly supervises and supports the efforts of assigned Program Centers and their direct service staff to meet and maintain compliance with rules, regulations and requirements.

The Education Coordinator shares responsibility for engaging parents, staff and providers in the fields of education, early intervention and related services for children as well as the provision and monitoring of services in accordance with program Performance Standards.

The Education Coordinator collaborates with other Content Area Coordinators to ensure a coordinated approach to serving all ELP children and families.

The Coordinator travels throughout Lackawanna, Pike, Susquehanna and Wayne Counties to perform essential job duties and to attend professional development opportunities, including out-of-town travel.


Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Is aware of, understands, adheres to and is able to articulate:
  • Current Community Services resources
  • Head Start Performance Standards; and
  • Other regulations/policies/procedures/administrative guidance for the provision of quality services.
  • Supervises and supports daily work performance of Teachers, Assistant Teachers, and Teacher's Aides including daytoday work instruction, recommending hiring and discipline, and evaluating performance.
  • Conducts regular onsite visits to ascertain needs, monitor, supervise, and support educational staff.
  • Provides guidance and support to staff with implementation of curriculum/individualization plans and ongoing assessments.
  • Utilizes reflective supervision with assigned staff to assist them in evaluating their own performance and developing professional development plans. Monitors professional development plans, trains or arranges training to address identified performance needs and offers additional support/resources, as needed. This includes monitoring the induction plan for new PKC staff and Level I to Level II teaching certification.
  • Completes probationary and annual evaluations for assigned staff based on classroom monitoring and observations. Develops and implements Performance Improvement Plans with staff and provides appropriate followup.
  • Provides support for direct service staff in the documentation and proper use of the child and family database (COPA) as it relates to education, transition and disabilities.
  • Maintains and monitors uptodate records related to education and special services in the program's COPA data system in accordance with program performance standards.
  • Encourages, supports, motivates, and works interactively with program staff to promote school readiness, family engagement, and positive interventions and supports in all aspects of the program.
  • Assists Education Manager in obtaining copies of center child care licenses, STARS certificates, ITERS and ECERS scores/ratings, and CLASS observations for assigned locations.
  • Serves as primary education advisor and resource person for PDE/Pre-K Counts Early Learning Education staff and identifies additional T/TA as needed.
  • Provides support and guidance to partners in preparation and completion of PRI visits with state specialist.
  • Attends mandatory HSSAP and PKC grantee meetings.
  • Supervises, monitors and evaluates HSSAP Itinerant Teachers.
  • Oversees and completes necessary documentation of HSSAP/PKC data in PELICAN.
  • Monitors partner budgets and revisions in PELICAN.
  • Establishes and fosters positive working relationships with local school systems and community partners within the early care and education community.
  • Collaborates with Special Services Specialist and Mental Health Team to mentor and support direct service staff by providing guidance and resources to plan appropriately for a child with a known or suspected disability, in accordance with the child's IEP/IFSP, Head Start Early Learning Framework and Pennsylvania State Laws.
  • Collects, reviews, and shares screenings, assessments, and classroom observation data as required.
  • Coordinates the review, scheduling and arrangement of followup screenings with program staff.
  • Collaborates with Coaches and program staff to structure environments, routines, and interactions that contribute to positive socialemotional outcomes for the children and families in the program.
  • Supports staff in completion and coordination of children's transitions (within program, EHS to HS and transition to school district Pre-K/K).
  • Becomes trained and proficient in effective teaching strategies related to classroom observation tools. Conducts observations, as needed, and analyzes information together with child outcome data to build upon staff strengths and address areas in need of improvement through training and resources.
