Duties:


  • You will serve as an Exhibits Specialist to the Supervisory Museum Curator within the National Museum of the U.S. Navy (NMUSN) Campus Program Office.
  • You will design, construct, and maintain new and existing exhibits in the NMUSN as well as participate in the planning of exhibits for the new NMUSN Campus Project.
  • You will assist in the strategic planning for exhibit development, maintenance and upgrades.
  • You will participate in management of daily operations within the permanent galleries and temporary exhibit spaces, ensuring galleries and exhibits remain in good repair.
  • You will find effective ways and means through which the exhibits team can cooperate to meet overall goals for new and existing galleries.

Qualifications:


  • For the GS11 Level your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector using knowledge of exhibit design and fabrication, museum exhibit methodology and standards incorporating physical, digital, analog visitor experiences to perform the following duties: 1) Designing, fabricating, or installing, new and maintaining immersive durable and digital exhibits; 2) Creating exhibit drawings using software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Auto CAD, and/or other commercial design software; 3) Collaboratively working on a museum exhibit team4) Assisting in exhibit development, maintenance, and upgrades; 5) Assisting in the daily operations within permanent galleries and temporary exhibit spaces; 6) Using knowledge of exhibit materials, fabrication processes, artifact display standards including offgassing, light levels, metal, and Plexiglas to safely present valuable artifacts.
    Education:In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

For the GS-11 Level:


  • You must have successfully completed a Ph.
D.

or equivalent doctoral degree in a major study such as illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, or other fields related to the position.


  • OR_
  • Have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.
D.

or equivalent degree in a major study such as illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, or other fields related to the position.


  • OR_
  • Have successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled in a major study such as illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, or other fields related to the position.
  • OR_
  • Have a combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
