Position Function:


The incumbent in this position supports all aspects of the research and education programs associated with the Arizona Veterans Research and Education Foundation (AVREF).

The incumbent oversees human resources, invoicing, ordering supplies, and activities supporting research and education within AVREF.

The incumbent will assist the Business Operations Manager and the Executive Director with executing appropriate internal controls, tracking key performance indicators, and assure clinical and lab staff are supported in the execution of their roles.

The incumbent reports to the Executive Director.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Administratively aid Clinical Research Coordinators, Laboratory Staff, and Principal Investigators in the execution of their duties and tasks resulting in the successful execution of research
  • Data entry of financial information into assigned programs, record keeping, and fulfilling appropriate internal controls resulting in the compliance of the organization to good accounting practices, the 2 CFR 200 uniform guidance of federal grants, and the requirements of Veterans Affairs and AVREF policies and procedures.
  • Onboarding newly hired staff to their position, working with Veterans Affairs HR staff for confirming appointments to the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Medical Service research department. Affirming appropriate training is assigned and completed
  • Ordering supplies, equipment, and materials needed as requested by principal investigators, staff, and administration
  • Follow and execute policies and procedures as authorized by the board of directors
  • All other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills required by the Position:


A Bachelor's degree in business, finance or a related field with accounting coursework and two years of professional level accounting and human resource experience, or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education as approved by the Executive Director.


  • Integrity, enthusiasm, and dedication are essential to be success
  • Must have strong computer skills using Microsoft Word in preparing, formatting and editing various documents.
  • Prefer one or more years of experience in working with a nonprofit organization or a research organization
  • Experience working with generally accepted accounting principles and QuickBooks software
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with principal investigators, clinicians, support personnel and management
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Preference for experience in nonprofit administration
  • Preference in Federal grant management

Environment:


Physical Requirements:
Sit for extended periods of time, use computer interfaces, and able to communicate electronically and/or telephonic communication devices.

Title of the person to whom this position reports: Executive Director

The incumbent shall work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. The incumbent shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues, supervisors, vendors, and customers.
