Responsibilities:


Clinical:


  • Perform routine clinical functions and document in patient charts, including vital signs, height, weight, pain screening, and chief complaints.
  • Document use of interpreter as appropriate, facilitating interpreter participation for medical appointments.
  • Assist nurses, providers, and patients in preparation for exams and procedures.
  • Perform sterile processing procedures in outpatient clinics and maintain appropriate logs.
  • Assist with pointofcare testing (POCT) and other department procedures.
  • Assist with medication review and updating patient medication lists.
  • Abstraction of medical information and updating providers with status.
  • Assist patients with completion of clinical research forms.
  • Enter data accurately into patient flowcharts.
  • Ensure labs required by providers are in patient profiles and ready for visits.
  • Complete competencies for required procedures.
  • Support providers in managing inbasket messages.
  • Act as chaperone as needed for medical providers.
  • Provide internal float coverage for department.
  • Transport patients as directed and monitor patient flow.
  • Participate in updating mandatory logs, clinical surveys, and chart audits.
  • Facilitate referrals to other providers as ordered by physicians.
  • Perform clinical activities accurately and timely.
  • Assist in writing and sending patient communications.
  • Mentor incoming staff.
  • Comply with all Ambulatory Services and Medical Center policies and procedures.
  • Complete annual competency testing.
  • Ensure medication cabinets are secured and supplies are adequate.
  • Coordinate care within provider teams and support staff.
  • Review clinical information for prior authorizations.
  • Preliminary review of incoming referrals for necessary information.
  • Assist in appeals for denials of medications/procedures.
  • Review patient education information with patients.
  • Prepare new patient referrals and assist with clinical research.

Registration, Scheduling, and Insurance Management:


  • Support and coordinate scheduling of outpatient clinic visits and procedures.
  • Register patients in person or by telephone and update patient information.
  • Communicate Medical Center financial policies and answer patient account questions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data entries for registration and scheduling.
  • Coordinate providers' clinic schedules and book appropriate visits and procedures.
  • Obtain and verify patient insurance eligibility and select appropriate insurance plans.
  • Provide administrative support for providers and respond to inquiries.

Communication:


  • Demonstrate courtesy and followthrough in telephone communications.
  • Maintain a professional working environment and uphold House Standards.
  • Notify providers of patient delays and service issues.
  • Share pertinent information with health team members.
  • Identify and communicate problems for improvement.
  • Assist patients with issues and complaints.
  • Utilize Electronic Health Record for documentation within scope of practice.

Operations Maintenance:


  • Maintain clean, wellstocked exam rooms and inventory of medical supplies.
  • Coordinate meal and rest periods and ensure clinic coverage.
  • Adhere to infection control procedures and supply standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement and customer service initiatives.
  • For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

  • Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program or equivalent.
  • Current American Heart Association CPR Certification.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to prioritize work efficiently.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing work assignments.
  • Familiarity with different insurances and resources for patient needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Cantonese or Spanish.
  • Minimum 2 years' outpatient practice experience in clinical or administrative capacity.
  • Ability to use EMR and perform chart abstraction (Epic or APeX).
  • Bachelor's degree in health or behavioral science.
  • Experience with analyzing quality improvement data.
  • Experience with insurance verification (Familiarity with insurance and prior authorizations)
  • Coordination of procedures experience.
