Under the direction of the Program Director and Operations Coordinator, the Operations/Shift supervisor will supervise all program operations/front desk/safety staff at a 42-bed Safe Haven located in the Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan, during their shift.

Supervise operations staff (Program Aides).

Primarily responsible for ensuring that all operations documents are in order and that all staff certificates are up to date for members on their shifts.

Assist Operations Coordinator as needed and delegated. Possess or obtain a Certificate of Fitness as a Fire Safety Coordinator and coordinate and conduct fire drills. Prioritize the safety of all tenants and staff of the program. Act as a liaison with other shifts and the Facilities Department and Maintenance.


Essential Position Functions:


  • Maintain daily operations of the Safe Haven and act as "second in command" to the Program Director during hours of operation. Function in the role of primary manager of the facility in the absence of the program director; consulting with the Area Director or Assistant VP as necessary.
  • Directly supervise front desk and direct care/safety staff, and Program Aides on your shift.
  • Communicate with Managers and other Shift Supervisors between shifts.
  • Coordinate and assist with onsite Crisis intervention. Be available for staff of other shifts to provide advice and assistance with crisis intervention when on site.
  • Maintain status as a Licensed Fire Coordinator (F80) and ensure that all other staff obtain either an F80 or F02 (Fire Guard) Certificate of Fitness if needed. Assure a full complement of Fire Safety staff, First Aid/CPR, and Food Service staff to ensure coverage across shifts.
  • Manage CARES reporting to the NYC Department of Homeless Services. You must document all engagement via AWARDS as well.
  • Review the visitor logbook and safety logbook for quality assurance.
  • Communicate issues that occur during your shift, with your staff's assistance, to other shifts, managers, DHS, and facilities (using Real Page for repair requests) as needed.
  • Reinforce program policies and procedures.
  • Perform all required administrative duties.
  • Prepare the program for inspections.
  • Attending staff meetings, supervision, and training as required.
  • While performing functions, one must be able to interact with the client population in a polite and professional manner while maintaining personal boundaries. Must be able to and being able to accept our resident's behavior and maintain composure during crisis situations and/or engage individuals who may present behavioral issues.
  • Report any incidents or disruptive behavior to the residence's supervisors and/or staff.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, plus 3 years of work experience.
  • Experience working with the street homeless population; experience supervising staff; strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
  • Fire Safety Coordinator (F80) mandatory or within 6 months of hire.

  • Friday to Saturday from 12 am 8 am (1 hr lunch)
