    • To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, mental attitudes, strategy, and physical training necessary to achieve individual and team success
    • To provide leadership for students and staff in the development of moral values, good sportsmanship, fair play, the pride of accomplishment, self-discipline, and self-confidence
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Valid Alabama Teaching Certificate.
    2. Employment with the school system, preferred.
    3. Previous successful cheer coaching experience including NCA, UCA, High School, All-Star, or Collegiate experience, preferred.
    4. AACCA/USA Cheerleading Safety Certification or obtain after hire.
    5. Knowledge of first aid and safety procedures.
    6. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No
    7. Knowledge of Board's athletics policies and procedures, school rules, state and/or regional athletic association rules.
    8. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and peers.
    9. Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
    10. Demonstrated proficiency in organization and motivation skills.
    11. Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
    12. Knowledge of coaching principles and knowledge of the assigned sport.
    13. Experience with stunting and instruction.
    14. Knowledge of stunting and tumbling safety techniques and guidelines
    15. Ability to spot elite tumbling skills.
    16. Ability to evaluate the performance of assistant coaches and determine their effectiveness.
    17. Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform the essential functions of the position, including the ability to demonstrate choreography and proper technique.
    18. Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
    19. Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
    20. Ability to work flexible hours in the evenings, weekend, and holidays.
    21. Ability to travel to away games as assigned.
    22. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
    23. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Coach as Learner:
    1. Continue as a life-long learner.
    2. Model lifelong learning and curiosity.
    3. Participate in professional learning activities in area of coaching, including proper techniques and developments within the cheer world.
    4. Collaborate with colleagues.
    5. Learn and use new strategies and techniques.
    6. Give attention to student athletes' grades, school conduct, and overall well-being.
    Coach as Relationship Builder:
    1. Create a positive culture.
    2. Value and respect each student athlete.
    3. Recognize the potential in each student athlete.
    4. Consistently encourage and support each student athlete to reach his/her fullest potential.
    5. Ensure fair and impartial treatment of all student athletes.
    6. Plan and coordinate tryouts and team selections.
    7. Organization of Weekly practices, team meetings, and team-building exercises.
    8. Work with the principals, other coaches, athletes in other sports, faculty, and staff in establishing and maintaining good sportsmanship standards in the school.
    9. Work with the principals, assistant coaches, and boosters in improving and maintaining existing facilities.
    10. Foster good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program.
    11. Work collaboratively and cooperatively with other extracurricular programs, including Arts and Athletics.
    12. Coordinate the use of practice areas, competition areas, training facilities and meeting spaces with principal and other school system personnel.
    Coach as Designer and Facilitator:
    1. Display a broad technical competence in the coached sport.
    2. Coach team members on choreography elements of stunting, tumbling, jumps and other elements for spirit routines.
    3. Collaborate with Athletic Director, administration, staff, and volunteers to enhance the fan experience at athletic events, including but not limited to timeouts, halftime, pregame, in-game, and post-game promotional efforts.
    4. Prepare team members for events, including competitions, through developing practice and workout plans that improve health and minimize injury risk.
    5. Coordinate with the principal and athletic director to formulate budgets and submit them to the principal for approval; operate within the established budget for the sport.
    6. Organize and supervise the program from developing feeder programs through the varsity level.
    7. Design conferences, clinics, and meetings to develop staff abilities and skills.
    8. Maintain discipline, adjust grievances, and work to increase morale and cooperation.
    9. Establish schedules for practices, games, transportation, tournaments, and special events according to school and system guidelines.
    10. Communicate effectively with all team members throughout the season on matters such as performance, academics, personal growth, and various needs that arise.
    11. Report athletic injuries according to Board policy and school procedures.
    Coach as Role Model and Leader:
    1. Demonstrate support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
    2. Serve as a role model and work toward the development of good character and desirable attitudes among students.
    3. Demonstrate a strong desire toward winning and in accomplishing the work necessary for this end.
    4. Administer the designated sport for the school, including all preseason, in-season, and postseason activities necessary to the development of a squad which promotes the athletics programs in a positive manner.
    5. Determine the eligibility of student athletes and ensure completion of forms, reports, or other documentation to complete this task.
    6. Assist in processing a proper insurance plan for athletes.
    7. Approve and submit for final approval the purchases of all equipment and uniforms bought for the sport and ensure proper purchasing procedures.
    8. Make recommendations to principals and the personnel department in the selection and assignment of assistant coaches.
    9. Ensure that all rules and regulations of the Alabama High School Athletic Association, and any Board regulations regarding athletics are enforced.
    10. Delegate specific duties to assistant coaches and supervise the implementation of program plans.
    11. Ensure proper professional and ethical behavior from all assistant coaches and volunteers at all times.
    12. Approve all sales and advertising campaigns to benefit the sport.
    13. Ensure to the maximum extent possible, the safety and well-being of all participants in the athletic program.
    14. Maintain inventory records and is accountable for all equipment for the sport; arranges for issuing, storing, reconditioning, and properly discarding equipment.
    EVALUATION: Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Pike Road Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
