    Job Summary
    Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, is responsible for all duties pertaining to the management of the pool.

    Ensures the safety of all swimmers and staff, promotes special events; completes all records required to carry out a successful and safe operation of the swimming pool in its entirety.

    Will provide swimming instruction schedules for all levels & ages; supervise pool activities and enforce the rules; observe pool areas to detect possible drownings or swimmers needing assistance; perform lifesaving techniques or artificial resuscitation methods as required; teach class participants in swimming strokes and safety techniques as needed; plan and coordinate activities for members of the community; promote and ensure safety for recreation program participants and pool patrons; supervise aquatic programs and pool operation; performs related responsibilities as needed.

    • Any combination or education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a Pool Manager.

      A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess a high school diploma or equivalent, two years of college supplemented by specialized training in recreation, physical education or a related field and three years of increasingly responsible experience in a comprehensive aquatics program with one year of program supervision.

    Possession of, or ability to obtain, the following American Red Cross Certificates:
    Standard First Aid, Advanced Lifesaving, Water Safety Instructor, and Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the professional Rescuer/AED. * Possession of a valid Class "C" California Driver's License.
    Must possess at time of application and maintain the following: a. Lifeguard Certification issued by the American Red Cross or an equivalent public or professional association. b. Water Safety Instruction Certification issued by the American Red Cross or an equivalent public or professional association. c. First Aid & CPR and AED issued by the American Red Cross or an equivalent public or professional association.


    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

    • Ability to work variable shifts

    Comments and Other Information


    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

    • Responsible for all things pertaining to the management of the pool.
    • Supervise aquatic activities to include swim lessons, recreational swim and related activities.
    • Schedule lifeguards and Pool Programs.
    • Monitor cash box as needed.
    • Promote the aquatics program to the community.
    • Plan and direct a continuing aquatic safety program.
    • Assist with inservice training and selection of aquatic staff.
    • Inspect facility for safety and maintenance needs.
    • Monitor filtration system and chemical levels.
    • Maintain program records.
    • Perform related duties as assigned.
    • Ensure the safety of all swimmers.
    • Ensure that lifeguards/water safety instructors explain and enforce indoor or outdoor pool regulations and safety requirements.
    • Observe pool areas to detect hazardous conditions or lifethreatening situations.
    • Enters water to rescue swimmers needing assistance and performs artificial respiratory techniques as needed.
    • Teaches students in various swimming strokes and safety techniques as needed.
    • Maintains a clean and secure area around the pool.
    • Completes safety reports and advises assigned supervisor of any hazardous conditions or water safety incidents.
    • Ensuring the safety of the facility patrons and lifeguard team
    • Supervising the lifeguard team
    • Supervising the daily facility safety inspection

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Knowledge of District and Department policies and procedures.
    • Knowledge of customer service practices and techniques.
    • Knowledge of swimming strokes and water safety and breathing techniques used by individuals of different age groups.
    • Knowledge of rescue methods.
    • Knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques.
    • Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and procedures.
    • Skill in responding to emergency situations including safely rescuing drowning victims and administering CPR and First Aid.
    • Skill in effective oral and written communication
    • Ability to explain and enforce water safety rules and pool regulations.
    • Ability to demonstrate swimming strokes and lifesaving techniques.
    • Ability to rescue swimmers calmly and effectively given potential drownings or needing assistance.
    • Ability to swim underwater and to pull and carry swimmers to safety using upper body and lower body swimming strokes.
    • Ability to calmly and effectively perform water rescues and administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in emergency situations
    • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, swimmers and the general public.
    • Ability to prepare incident reports.
    • Ability to communicate oral instructions to swimmers.
    • Arrive to work on time.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to swim, walk, sit and talk or hear.

    The employee is occasionally required to use hand to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hand and arms.

    The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be physically able to perform all rescue skill, including backboard rescue and deepwater lift.

    The employee may be required to:

    • Bend, stoop, kneel, crawl and crouch.
    • Perform public speaking.
    • Attend meetings.
    • Interact with a variety of people.

    LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:
    Possession of a valid Class "C" California Driver's License


    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION KNOWLEDGE OF:

    Objectives and philosophy or recreation and its application to individual and group behavior with particular emphasis to aquatic programming.

    Program promotion and marketing. Pool maintenance and safety procedures.


    ABILITY TO:
    Organize and conduct various age groups in swimming from beginning through advanced levels. Display personal skill in leadership and supervision of aquatic personnel. Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Maintain accurate financial records and receipts. Effectively operate a motor vehicle on City streets. Operate a computer and applicable software.
