    Responsibilities

    We are in search of a seasoned Senior SQL Database Administrator to oversee the architecture, engineering, and operation of the SQL Database Platform as a Service offerings in a Hybrid Cloud datacenter.

    Location:

    Onsite in Kansas City, Missouri; Quantico MCB, VA; Camp Lejeune, NC

    What you will do:

    As a Senior SQL Database Administrator, your main tasks will involve planning, engineering, operating, maintaining, and resolving issues related to the SQL Database Platform as a Service capabilities. You will collaborate with hybrid cloud datacenter infrastructure and teams, focusing on virtualization, backup/storage, operating systems management, networking, and management tools. Your role will also include providing operational support, enhancing security, handling migrations, interacting with customers, managing patching, and participating in cloud migration and operational activities.

    The Hybrid Cloud Systems program offers cybersecurity services to maintain the USMC application hosting environment. The team also works on deploying and managing on-premises, hybrid-cloud, and cloud datacenter environments. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the USMC's objectives in enterprise application hosting, ensuring continuous support and secure operations for a global warfighter community.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    • Administering SQL Platform as a Service hosting environment (including SQL virtualized databases).
    • Creating, managing, and operating SQL Platform as a Service offerings across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud native environments like Azure and AWS.
    • Monitoring, triaging, and responding to events, incidents, and changes, including backup/restore operations.
    • Implementing and managing secure infrastructure components for SQL databases including encryption.
    • Developing, troubleshooting, and updating scripts for SQL environment management.
    • Collaborating with other datacenter engineers on incident resolution and providing database administration support.
    • Working with vendors to optimize SQL virtualization architecture and associated software to ensure a secure and highly available database platform.
    • Automating software installations and upgrades using scripting in bash and python and VMWare tools.
    • Establishing a comprehensive system monitoring plan and capacity planning.
    • Troubleshooting and resolving complex database operation incidents.
    • Providing 24x7x365 on-call support and participating in security/application patching processes.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • BS/BA + 12 years, MS/MA + 10 years, PhD + 7 years of experience (HS + 16 years considered).
    • Experience in implementing DISA STIGs and security controls.
    • Hands-on experience with managing SQL database platforms in cloud environments.
    • Proficiency in deploying, upgrading, and managing large-scale virtualized SQL systems.
    • Expertise in backup/restore operations and VMWare Aria Operations Suite, HP Blade System, Log Management tools, NetBackup, and DISA STIGs.
    • IAT Level II Certification, US Citizenship, and DoD SECRET Clearance.

    Desired:

    • Microsoft SQL Certification, Oracle database administration experience, IT Service Management, Agile Project management.
    • Scripting expertise and certifications in AWS or Azure Cloud, Linux.

    Additional Certifications Preferred: AWS or Azure Cloud certification, Linux Certification

    Target Salary Range

    $112,000 - $179,000. This range reflects the standard salary range for this role based on experience and other factors.
