    Job Description and Duties
    Under the direction of the Director, Department of Developmental Services (DDS), the Medical Director will assist the Director to set strategic goals, develop policies and procedures to strengthen and enhance DDS' oversight in areas including, but not limited to regional center (RC) eligibility, coordination and monitoring of statewide clinical care, and safety net services. This position will provide statewide clinical guidance and expertise to DDS, to include state-operated services and RCs, providing consultation on complex cases, and ensuring the implementation of evidence-based practices. The Medical Director is responsible for quality improvement, collaboration and coordination with other healthcare professionals and community partners, and education and training of clinical professionals within the California Health and Human Services (CalHHS), DDS and the RCs. The Medical Director will work with the state-operated facilities medical director to ensure the development and ongoing monitoring of a state-operated residential program for adolescents and adults with complex needs, as defined as individuals and mental health conditions per Senate Bill 138.

    This is a Limited-term position which may be extended or become permanent.

    This position is eligible to participate in DDS' hybrid telework schedule. Participation in telework is subject to DDS' guidelines.

    Department Information
    The California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is the agency through which the State of California provides services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities.

    These disabilities include intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and related conditions. Services are provided through state-operated developmental centers and community facilities, and contracts with 21 nonprofit regional centers. The regional centers serve as a local resource to help find and access the services and supports available to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

    Ability to: Formulate and manage a multidisciplinary patient treatment program; integrate the programs with the overall functions of the hospital or developmental center; communicate effectively; work independently in identifying the need for and developing proposed changes in program practices and procedures; analyze complex medical and administrative problems and take effective action. Plan, organize, direct and consult on medical and consumer services; gain the confidence and support of top level administrators and advise on a wide range of medical services matters; develop cooperative working relationship with all levels of government, consumers and their families, advocates, members of the public, and other stakeholders; and develop and implement DDS policies.
