Job Duties:
The mission of the Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI) is to provide services and resources which empower individuals who are blind, vision impaired or deafblind to achieve their desired levels of employment, education, and personal independence.
Virginia Industries for the Blind (VIB) is a self-supporting enterprise operation, and fulfills this mission by providing opportunities in retail, manufacturing, professional services, technology, and sales.
We are seeking a VIB Assistive Technology and Process Specialist to support the goals of VIB by performing tasks in support of computer hardware, software, assistive technology, processes, and ERP systems.
This position will be responsible for ensuring that VIB is a universally accessible and efficient workplace and focuses on the strategic implementation and management of assistive technology solutions.
Additionally, this role serves as a liaison, ensuring communication between employees requiring assistive technology and the technology department, to guarantee that adaptive solutions meet a wide array of needs effectively.
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
Knowledge/Experience -Proficiency with assistive technologies such as HTML/CSS, ARIA, JAWS, ZoomText. Experience in assessing and identifying assistive technologies needs of individual employees and their related tasks. Some direct experience in designing, programming, and/or operating business information systems, to included databases, systems, and/or reporting.
Proven success in documenting processes and technical requirements for software systems to ensure both compliance and operational efficiency.
Skills/Abilities -Strong capabilities in Microsoft Office 365, Google Workspace, various web browsers, and mobile platforms. Competence in evaluating, designing, and implementing accessibility compliance such as Section 508 and WCAG.
Excellent communication skills enabling collaboration among all levels of staff, communication of desired changes, and guiding implementation of solutions.
Ability to identify and creatively address challenges to improve accessibility and operational efficiency and to problem-solve demanding a blend of technical acumen, innovative problem-solving, and a steadfast dedication to fostering accessibility.
Additional Considerations:
Training in a technical or business field with an emphasis of business information systems, reporting and data analysis. Training in Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance/Accounting, or a related discipline.
Experience operating/maintaining ERP systems and in retail store operations, point of sale, e-commerce, and/or manufacturing. Experience with Macola and/or Counterpoint.
Prior military experience or related experience in a Federal Government /DoD environment.
