Job Purpose:
As the leader of a service function in the External Affairs Division, the Director of Creative & Production Services supports the University's external strategic marketing and positioning objectives by ensuring compliance with and use of the University's brand, logo and graphic identify standards, and supports efficient and effective print, mail and package services for the University community.
Essential Duties:
- Provide creative services, brand and graphics expertise as an internal consultant to university stakeholders, working to establish timelines and to provide accurate project estimates so that clients can make informed decisions
- Develop and maintain a responsive and efficient creative services process to support the design, production and distribution needs of the University and related organizations
- Coordinate all external contract printing and mailing to ensure the efficient and ethical use of University resources, including employing a fair bidding process as appropriate
- Ensure that projects reflect the Universitys brand and graphic identify standards and meet client expectations
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the Universitys brand and graphic identity
- Ensure compliance in the use of University registered marks in consultation with the General Counsel as needed and manage trademark royalties
- Coordinate efforts to oversee photography resources for the University, including assessment of the need for photography and photo library database management
- Establish and maintain relationships with a pool of qualified printing and mailing vendors and freelance graphic designers and proofreaders to support projects as needed
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of the Assistant Director of Printing and Mailing Services, Senior Graphic Designer and Graphic Designer
- Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets for Printing & Mailing Services and manage department credit cards
- Manage department budget reporting and tracking including, vended printing and mailing, postal accounts, and monthly chargebacks
Additional Skills Required:
- Ability to embrace, implement and maintain brand and graphic standards
- Superior customer service and project management skills
- Demonstrated understanding of graphic design, printing, print production and mailing
- Demonstrated skill in using advanced computer and design programs, including word processing, spreadsheets, and Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills as demonstrated by an ability to work with a variety of groups, organizations and individuals
- Must be able to support the Universitys commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture
- Must be able to respect, support and contribute to the Universitys Catholic and Jesuit mission
Minimum Education Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in communications, graphic design or related field
Preferred Education:
Minimum Job Experience Requirements:
- Three (3) years of experience in leading/managing creative services teams (e.g printing, design or publications setting) that complete a high volume of concurrent projects under deadlines
- Supervisory responsibility
