Mission Director

Overview:

The mission director's primary responsibility is to help the Rector ensure that every ministry at St. Mary Cathedral aligns with the mission of creating, forming, and sending disciples of Jesus Christ in our community.

He or she will have the following main areas of focus:


  • Strengthening and guiding currently existing outreach focused discipleship ministries to expand their reach and influence.
  • In cooperation with the pastor, providing direct transformational leadership for existing formation programs to have a focus on discipleship and evangelization.
  • On the parish side, this means:
  • Cooperating with the Catholic Faith Formation (CFF) Coordinator to provide vision and theological oversight to the parish CFF program including Sacramental Preparation (RCIA, Children, Adult, Baptism Classes)
  • Cooperating with the Priests to provide marriage preparation opportunities.
  • Providing young married couples formational opportunities.
b.

On the school side (campus ministry) coordinating with the principal to provide spiritual/discipleship formation for teachers and fostering opportunities for discipleship among the students.

c. Teaching and instructing students and volunteers in both the school and parish.


  • Consulting with all other ministry heads and leaders to inculcate a discipleship focus in everything we do at St. Mary Cathedral.
  • As director level position, this person would serve on the parish leadership team. This involves
  • Regular consultation with the priests and other team members to guide the overall mission of the Parish.
  • Developing new innovative ways to reach the unevangelized.

Requirements:


  • Demonstrated experience in evangelization
  • Able to demonstrate theological competence and orthodoxy.
  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Technology Capable

Desirable Characteristics

  • Bachelor's or master's in theology, Philosophy, Catechetics, or a related field.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish
  • Familiar with the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite
  • Familiarity with Homeschooling Religious Education

Working Conditions:


  • Employees of Saint Mary Cathedral are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the Church
  • Saint Mary Cathedral is an at-will employer
  • All buildings owned by Saint Mary Cathedral are tobacco and alcohol free
  • Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly
  • Working on weekends, evenings, and some holidays may be required
  • Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations
  • Will be required to adhere to dress codes and conduct standards, including but not limited to EIM standards of conduct in the workplace and outside of the workplace
  • Use of personal vehicle to drive to off-site locations outside the parish for meetings or events will be required
  • Will be required to conform personal and professional activities to be consistent with and supportive of the mission, purpose, and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church to include social media
  • Must complete the Diocese of Austin's Ethics and Integrity in Ministry within 60 days of employment and maintain certification throughout the employment period.
