Job Objective:


A Registered Nurse who exemplifies expert knowledge of nursing process, clinical skills, possesses effective planning skills, and acts in supervisory role to ensure appropriate delivery of patient care according to established standards.

Must maintain competencies and be capable with the range of patients usually seen in the unit. Serves as a role model for the staff. Has an effective interpersonal and intrapersonal communication skill. Works effectively with the interdisciplinary team. Actively supports AVH mission, vision and values.


Essential Duties:


  • Must meet all the established criteria for Registered Nurse competency levels as identified by clinical area.
  • Rounds on unit at least twice per shift assessing patient safety standards, quality metrics, and ensuring patient/guest relations expectations are met.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and physicians.
  • Supports and fosters positive physician relations and open communication.
  • Facilitates education, mentoring, and growth of employees.
  • Provides staff with objective feedback that supports understanding and progression of Hospital expectations and goals.
  • Adheres to Hospital policy and practices.
  • Provides assistance and/or direction to other units when required, due to patient care needs.
  • Serves as resource for other staff
  • Acts as liaison between patients, staff and interdepartmentally at all levels.
  • Provides support for greater staff accountability and responsibility.
  • Responsible for problem solving and crises intervention, relative to physicians, patients, family, and staff.
Assumes responsibility for professional and developmental growth by attending continuing education conferences and in-services.

  • Ability to balance multiple tasks.
  • Delegates appropriately as deemed necessary.
  • Maintains unit environment to insure appropriate supplies are available and area is quiet, free from safety hazards, and clean.
  • Keeps management team informed.
  • Utilizes active listening.
  • Facilitates time, admission, and discharge of patients ensuring proper utilization of beds.
  • Projects appropriate staffing requirements and makes appropriate assignments.
  • Assists and/or assumes patient care as necessary.
  • Moves and accepts key changes quickly.
  • Displays, promotes, and reinforces behavior that supports organizational changes.

  • Knowledge of current AVH policies and procedures including legal documents pertinent to unit, use of written resources and forms and the hospital structure and resources.

  • Ability to give and support the highest level of customer satisfaction at all times.
Ability to comply with the Antelope Valley Healthcare District Code of Professional Conduct.

  • Ability to conform to Joint Commission requirements.
  • Ability to conform with and support the Hospital performance improvement and risk management plans and policies.
  • Conforms to required and appropriate regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Corporate Compliance rules and regulations, complies with duty to report behavior standard, demonstrates understanding of purpose for Corporate Compliance hotline and importance of seeking guidance from a supervisor when in doubt regarding a possible Corporate Compliance issue.
  • Ability to follow the Code of Conduct (Standards of Business Ethics and Integrity).
  • Ability to participate effectively in department and hospital staff education and meetings.

Required Licensure and/or Certifications:


  • Minimum of oneyear progressive experience as a licensed Registered Nurse.
  • Meets all required licensure and/or certification for the Registered Nurse as appropriate for clinical area.
  • BSN and National Recognized Certification preferred.
