  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years of custodial, building maintenance or construction work.
  • Experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.

POSITION
OVERVIEW
Under general supervision, perform tasks in repair, replacement, preventative maintenance, and installation of AUS building systems. Act in a support role for other senior technicians.

  • Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  • 1. Conducts routine inspections of equipment.
  • 2. Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • 3. Records labor hours, materials, and work log in database.
    ASSESSMENT
  • A skills assessment will be required for this position.
    DRIVER'S REQUIREMENT*
  • This position must travel between various locations as part of the regular job duties and the individual will be required to drive a City vehicle. Position will also be required to drive on the AOA.
  • This position requires a Texas Class "C" Operator's License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the
    City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation (DRE
    ) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirtysix (36) months. Job Offer is contingent on having a driving record that meets the City's Driver Record Evaluation Standards.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

  • Inspects buildings and equipment for needed repairs and maintenance. Performs minor repairs to tables, chairs, cabinets, etc. Installs or replaces floor and ceramic tiles. Repairs or replaces electric plugs and cords.
  • Drives vehicles as needed.
  • Moves furniture, file cabinets, equipment, etc. using hand dollies.
  • Performs service on pumps, air handlers, cooling towers, etc.
  • Repacks, changes oil/filters, lubricates, etc.
  • Operates drills, buffers, grinders, sanders, etc. Operate various power saws, i.e., radial arm, skill, etc. Operates acetylene cutting torch, welder, etc.
  • Performs basic plumbing installations/repairs i.e., install and repair faucets, unclog drains, replace valves, etc.
  • Measures using tapes, transits, levels, etc.
  • Performs semiskilled carpentry work in the construction and repair of walls, ceilings, etc.
