    Infectious Diseases Advanced Practice Provider (July 1, 2024 start date)

    Rush University Medical Center and the Department of Internal Medicine are recruiting an Advanced Practice Provider to join their Infectious Diseases team. This position will provide inpatient and outpatient support to a team of 18 Infectious Disease physicians on a five-day, eight-hour schedule.

    *APRN candidates must have acute care certification

    The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a licensed physician assistant (PA) or acute-care certified advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who functions as a member of the health care team to provide high quality, comprehensive acute and/or routine medical/surgical care of Rush University Medical Center patients within the scope of practice granted in accordance with the RUMC medical staff bylaws.

    The APP will promote collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost effective and quality patient care.

    The individual who holds this position will exemplify the Rush mission, vision and values and act in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines of Rush, including the Rush University Medical Group Customer Service standards.

    Successful candidates will also meet all other state and federal regulatory practice and accreditation standards.

    Responsibilities:

    Clinical


    • Completes and documents an accurate history and physical examination of patients.
    • Conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessments and develops patient care plans
    • Orders and interprets tests, treatments, and therapies within the scope of practice
    • Prescribes medications, including controlled substances to the extent delegated including non-pharmacologic treatment modalities
    • Orders, interprets, and performs laboratory and other diagnostic tests and procedures, Serves as surgical first assist as assigned.
    • Provides clear, concise, and accurate information in the electronic medical record.
    • Initiate and perform consultations in accordance with Rush rules and regulations
    • Make appropriate referrals to other health care professionals and/or agencies
    • Provides direct patient care in assigned areas, which may be in a hospital or ambulatory setting. This generally consists of direct patient care hours/week/1.0 FTE.
    Professional


    • Works collaboratively with his/her supervising physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner.
    • Acts as an advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the physician assistant profession
    • Participates in all required focusedand ongoing professional practice evaluation activities (i.e. FPPE and OPPE)
    • Integrates evidence based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision making
    • Demonstrates competency in all medical and surgical procedures and skill considered essential in their area of practice
    • Maintains board certification, state licensure, and continuing medical education as outlined by the physician assistant profession
    • Utilizes Epic to bill for patient care services provided in accordance with Rush guidelines.
    • Routinely performs self-assessment using the physician assistant competencies.
    Leadership


    • Leads multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated delivery of patient care services
    • Consults with supervising physician and administrators to analyze practice experience and perform practice-based improvement activities using systematic methodology in concert with other members of the healthcare delivery team.
    Education


    • Provides relevant and comprehensive patient education to patients, families and significant others.
    • Facilitate the learning of students, residents, fellows and other healthcare professionals.
    • Provide education and mentoring to students of all healthcare professionals within area of practice.
    Other information:


    Required Job Qualifications:

    • Current State of Illinois Physician Assistant licensure.
    • Current certification from National Certification Commission for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
    • Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Studies training program.
    • Master's Degree.
    • CPR certification.
    • Demonstrates clinical competency in all area of clinical practice including: medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, patient care, professionalism, practice based learning and improvement, systems based practice.
    • Skill in preparing and maintaining electronic and paper medical records
    • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment.
    • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with supervising physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner.
    Preferred Job Qualifications:


    • ACLS or PALS certification.
