GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
Mixing of chemical formulations in a proper manner as described on batch ticket. Proper storage and handling of chemicals used in formulation. Ensure that all batch tickets are properly filled out and turned into lab along with a sample for testing. Abide by and follow all of QuestSpecialty's policies and procedures as outlined in manual.


SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES:


  • Complete batch tickets in the order listed on schedule. Supervisor will update you on any changes necessary. Do not make any mixes alone unless approved by trainer/supervisor.
  • Read batch ticket for PPE and special mixing instructions; notify stager of chemicals needed for batch, if it is necessary to pull your own chemicals complete location transfers in Chempax system. Ensure all Quality Control procedures are followed according to the Quality Control Manual.
  • Ensure that all Personal Protective Equipment requirements are met. Properly store protective equipment in designated areas.
  • Ensure all mixing equipment, tanks, and storage totes are clean and dry prior to use. Follow specific cleaning instructions on FDA regulated product batch tickets. Place tank cleaning flush in appropriate waste stream.
  • Perform visual inspections of raw materials prior to adding to mix tank (double check all labels); if any material is questionable (odor, discolored, etc.) sample material to QC.
  • Add chemicals to mix tank in the order listed and to weight indicated on batch ticket. Ensure proper mixing time in between additions.
  • Document quantity of raw materials on batch ticket as items are added to the mix tank and initial the batch ticket. Double verification of raw materials is required on all batch tickets. This second set of signatures can be another product formulator, supervisor, or QC. Note any changes or additions to a mix on the batch ticket.
  • Tag mixing tanks and storage totes with product number, lot number and the date product was mixed.
  • Properly document batch ticket with required information: mixer name, date, start/stop times, raw material supplier/lot numbers, quantities of materials used, unit of measure (lbs., grams, gallons) and two sets of signatures. Turn in sample of mix along with completed batch ticket to QC for testing.
  • Replace caps on drums and totes ensuring raw material containers are properly sealed and return to proper storage place.
  • Assist production department with moving of mix tanks to and from production lines as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work place at all times, keeping hoses/equipment out of the walkways and off the floor when not in use, cleaning any materials spilled immediately, removing/labeling unlabeled containers in work area, etc
  • Have an active role in responding to (containing, cleaning, etc.) spills throughout the facility when needed.
  • Assist in other mixing areas, as needed, if your primary mixing area is slow.
  • Annual Training Required: Forklift (Recertification is required every 3 years), Yard Policies, SPCC, Respirator, Methylene Chloride, Hydrofluoric Acid, Spill Clean Up, and FDA (for those that mix FDA Hand cleaners).
  • Any other duties or projects which may be assigned by the Supervisor or Plant Manager.
