  • Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Essex County helps both youth and adults improve their knowledge and skills, and resolve problems in the areas of food, nutrition, health and wellness; food safety; agriculture; environmental and natural resource management; and youth development. This is accomplished through the use of sciencebased knowledge and university research. RCE is an educational organization within the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station at Rutgers, The State University.

  • Essex County for the Rutgers Cooperative Extension. 4H is the youth development component of Rutgers Cooperative Extension, connecting youth and our community to Rutgers University (4H Connects Kids with Rutgers). 4H Science encompasses science, engineering, technology, and applied math. The history of 4H is rooted in the concept of bringing new science and technology to the citizens by involving youth. 4H Science programs reach more than 5 million youth with handson learning experiences to encourage young minds and help fill our nation's shortage of young leaders proficient in science, engineering, and technology. 4H's approach is comprehensive and holistic—from agriculture to climate change to alternative energy—youth are learning about highly relevant complex systems and issues that will ensure their contributions to their communities today and their success as global leaders tomorrow.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Coordinates program schedules and site logistics based on the needs of the program site.
  • Provides consistent communication with volunteer educators and community sites about program plans and schedules.
  • Develops lesson plans based on programming needs using the 4H curriculum and other researchbased resources.
  • Implements afterschool enrichment programs alongside teen and college student volunteers.
  • Creates appropriate program evaluation materials and impact reports.
  • Creates and updates 4H paper and electronic marketing for the programs you are responsible for.
  • Nurtures relationships with youth, developing programs that fit community need and interest

    Minimum Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED.
