Job Overview:


The Manager will be responsible for working closely with assigned areas and team members to facilitate incident review, promote patient safety and support regulatory and risk compliance.

The Manager will report program metrics to key stakeholders on a regular basis. The Manager will perform audits to ensure compliance with mandatory requirements. The Manager will work with specific assigned areas to understand and promote performance improvement within those areas. Participation in organizational meetings. Preparation and participation in regulatory surveys.


Qualifications:


  • Required:_
  • Minimum of a Bachelor s degree required
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical and organizational skills
  • Experience in supporting litigation discovery for outside counsel
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Successful completion of all orientation programs
  • Preferred:_
  • Knowledge of NJ State and HIPAA privacy requirements preferred but not required.

Essential Functions:


  • Handle all claims and litigation related hospital matters.
  • Assist legal counsel with potential claim assessments.
  • Coordinate procurement of responses to Discovery propounded on hospital and staff.
  • Reviews Summons & Complaint for coverage related issues and ensure notification to appropriate carriers.
  • Interface with legal counsel, including outside counsel at all phases of litigation and trial preparation.
  • Manage, review and analyze Event Reporting data including the closure of incident reports in the incident reporting system.
  • Analyze event reports for trends, high risk/high exposure, potentially compensable events for both patients and staff
  • Coordinate and facilitate Serious Safety Event Classification meetings with the Quality Resource staff.
  • Assist in Root Cause Analysis process including the reporting of events to the Department of Health (DOH).
  • Assist in the Apparent Cause Analysis process.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Patient Safety meetings working with the Quality Resource staff.
  • Review hospital incident reports and refer potential liability claims to insurance carrier as appropriate. Effectively manage actual claims and potential claims.
  • Investigate all hospital related risks involving actual injury to patients, visitors, employees and property.
  • Work to resolve patient and family grievances against the hospital by listening and
- communicating with the parties in order to avoid escalation of grievances into genuine claims.

  • Formulate and review policies to protect patients, visitors, staff and hospital.
  • Represent the Risk Management Department on hospital committees as needed, including the provision of analyzed risk data (Committees to include but not limited to: PIC/CQRC, Patient Safety, Safety, Workplace Violence, Bioethics, and Medication Safety.
  • Is accessible and visible to internal and external customers.
  • Responsible for reporting and followup of all motor vehicle accidents involving motor vehicles insured by hospital.
  • Responsible for reporting and followup of all hospital property claims.
  • Available 24/7 to respond to risk management related calls regarding the hospital.
  • Assist in coordinating Agreements with the Hospital and Corporate
  • Provide guidance and investigation in Guardianship matters.
  • Coordinate with insurance carrier to obtaining certificates of insurance as needed.
  • Respond to and investigate inquiries from Federal and State governmental agencies.
  • Complete renewal on automobile policies annually.
  • Respond to subpoenas propounded on hospital.
  • Coordinate notification and followup on Device Recall Alerts.
  • Provide Risk Management educational training to Hospital staff/employed/ independent practitioners as part of the Hospitals orientation process deemed appropriate for risk management
  • Administration of tracking documentation addressing (i) subpoenas, (ii) medical malpractice and other litigation claims and (iii) lost and personal belongings, including reimbursement for such items.
