LONG TERM SUBSTITUTE LIBRARY/MEDIA SPECIALIST

Job Summary


We are seeking a long-term Substitute Library Media Specialist until the end of the 2023/24 school year to provide leadership and expertise in acquiring and evaluating information resources in all formats; bring awareness of information issues into collaborative relationships with teachers, administrators, students, and others; and model strategies for locating, accessing, and evaluating information within and beyond the library media center.

Working in an environment that has been profoundly affected by technology, the long-term Substitute Library Media Specialist both masters sophisticated electronic resources and maintains a constant focus on the nature, quality, and ethical use of information available in these and in more traditional tools.


Responsibilities

  • Provide library media center resources that will meet the informational, research, educational, and recreational needs of the students
  • Identify links across student information needs, curricular content, learning outcomes, and a wide variety of print, nonprint, and electronic information resources
  • Monitor and supervise students in the Library
  • Ensure that students sign in to the Library during the school day
  • Manage the laptop for the day signin and signout sheet and process
  • Plan, execute, and evaluate the program to ensure its quality both at a general level and on a daytoday basis
  • Develop policies, practices, and curricula that guide students to develop the full range of information and communication abilities
  • Foster an atmosphere that encourages student and staff library media center usage
  • Consult with students and staff regarding their needs and interests in relation to the selection, management, and utilization of materials and equipment
  • Collaborate with teachers in planning and teaching research/information literacy skills and online safety skills
  • Assist students and staff in the use of library media center materials, online resources, and technology
  • Maintain an inventory of library materials
  • Maintain the library media center school web page
  • Analyze and adjust for curriculum changes and advances in technology to meet the instructional needs of students
  • Evaluate, select, and requisition new library/media materials

Required Skills and Abilities:


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in the management of staff, budgets, equipment, and facilities
  • The ability to work collaboratively with members of the learning community to define the policies of the library media program and to guide and direct all activities related to it
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty and administration

Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Valid Maryland Certificate as a Librarian/Media Specialist or previous experience working as a Library Media Specialist
