    Description:

    The Florida Department of Financial Services, Office of the General Counsel, is seeking a Senior Attorney to join the Criminal Law and False Claims (CLFC) Section.


    CLFC Section Attorneys are legal advisors to the Division of Investigative and Forensic Services (DIFS) and the Division of Public Assistance Fraud (DPAF).

    We advise sworn and civilian investigators state-wide on insurance fraud, public assistance fraud, workers' compensation fraud, theft of state resources, unclaimed property fraud, public corruption, and fire, arson, and explosives investigations.

    The section also monitors and represents the CFO's interest in False Claims Act cases served on the Department.

    Our attorneys work daily with investigators on a variety of matters, from developing complex, multi-jurisdictional organized fraud rings and scheme to defraud cases for presentation to prosecutors, to reviewing search warrants for sufficiency, advising on investigational procedures and agency policy, and preparing to testify.

    Additionally, we provide a substantial amount of training to all DIFS and DPAF personnel.


    The position offers a great work-life balance for the experienced attorney who is passionate about working in the fraud prevention arena and comfortable working with investigators, but ready to step away from the grind of a daily, full-time court caseload.

    There is no billing requirement for this position.

    The salary for the position is $90,000.00 annually with benefits (state health insurance and retirement contributions) worth approximately $25,708 (per DMS).

    This position is located in Tallahassee, Florida, and does not provide for telecommuting. The position requires some travel when providing training for division staff. There is no billing requirement for either position. These positions are located in Tallahassee.

    Applicants must possess a JD degree and membership in the Florida Bar.

    Applicants should have a minimum of 7 years' experience as a practicing attorney with at least 5 years' experience as a state or federal criminal prosecutor, public defender, or criminal defense attorney.

    Preference will be given to those with experience in white collar, economic crime, or insurance fraud, as a law enforcement agency legal advisor, insurance defense, or government or relator's counsel in state or federal qui tam actions.
