The Position:


_A 9.5% general salary increase will be applied effective July 2024._

_ An additional 8% general salary increase will be applied effective July 2025._

_ Additionally, the following procedures will apply:_
- _ Separate Promotional and Open (external) Eligibility Lists will be established._
- _ The Promotional Eligibility List will be comprised of current City employees (full or part-time) who meet the minimum qualifications and successfully complete any required selection processes._
- _ The Open Eligibility List will consist of external applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and successfully complete any required selection processes._


The Integrated Waste Department


The Integrated Waste Department, which is part of the City of Ontario's Public Works Agency, is committed to providing timely and efficient integrated waste and recycling collection services with an emphasis on good customer service, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.

The Integrated Waste Department includes approximately 116 full time staff and offers a variety of services and programs related to refuse and recycling collection service to approximately 33,000 residential and 3,500 commercial customers.

Among the services offered are weekly residential curbside recycling and green waste collection, and a full array of commercial and industrial integrated waste services designed to meet any business needs, including commercial food waste collection services, available six days a week, Monday through Saturday.


The Public Works Agency


The Public Works Agency provides essential construction, integrated waste and recycling collection, fleet and facility maintenance and repair services to the citizens and businesses of Ontario through the Parks and Maintenance, Municipal Services, and Integrated Waste Departments.

The Agency strives to meet the daily challenges of maintaining exceptional levels of service to our residents and community, providing stellar customer service, and maximizing all resources to develop and maintain value for the City.

The Agency has 232 full time employees and an annual budget of over $105 million.

Examples of Essential Functions:

The essential functions typically performed by the Integrated Waste Collector include the following:

  • Moves full, front-end load commercial bins into position for loading by mechanical equipment on truck.
  • Assists with the process of moving materials from refuse containers into refuse trucks.
  • Performs manual debris removal.
  • Operates compaction equipment on the truck.
  • Cleans and maintains interior and exterior of refuse collection vehicles.
  • Notes the conditions of refuse containers and reports the existence of improper containers or materials that do not comply with City requirements for collection.
  • May perform pretrip and posttrip vehicle inspections and document on appropriate forms.
  • Interacts directly with customers and the public.
  • May serve as relief driver, as necessary, on commercial refuse and/or recycling collection routes.

Qualification Guidelines:


Education
High School diploma or recognized equivalent.


Licenses

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to obtain a valid California Commercial Class B driver's license, or higher, within 6 months of appointment.
